Whatever you choose to call it this group is for those who prefer a less chemical way of raising their bubbas. I would not say I am an eco warrior but would like to leave the planet in a slightly better state than i left it for my kids and to be honest the eco way is often cheaper. With that in mind I have converted to using soap nuts, cloth nappying and natural cleaning alternatives

Well you probably guessed I'd come in here lol!

You know this, but for other people who are interested, we don't do loads of stuff by any means - just the things I feel fit into to our life with not much hassle

We have Izzy as a cloth bum and I use soap nuts :-)
Oh yeh and I use a mooncup

Dont think i could do that but the soap nuts are good. Im tempted by the ecoballs as well

Im also gonna try boiling up some of the soap nuts to make cleaning stuff. I prefer the idea of not using chemicals in the house not just for the eco thing but im asthmatic and neil has hayfever and we both have sensitive skin and C is showing signs of hayfever and sensitive skin already so im trying to find non irritant alternatives

And a soap nut is a berry which when wet emits a natural soap. You use it instead of detergent in your laundry. Its less chemical and works out 2.8p per wash instead of 25p per wash

I use ebay to buy them - there are a few sellers, I paid £8.50 for 5kg which is a good deal!

They come with a little linen bag, so you put them in there and tie it up - you can use them about 4-6 times before you need fresh ones! I add essential oil (usually lavender) to make the clothes smell nice, they just smell clean otherwise which is still nice lol

If you want Lita I will bring you some to try out - at least of you don't like them you haven wasted any money!

wow im gonna have to get me some of these soap nut things, they sound good-i have used eco balls (think thats the name, the balls with little balls inside, they last for age?)x

Oh and bicarb of soda on a stain will bring em out nice if you are using the nuts

Well I'm not exactly an 'eco worrier' either, but I do try and do my bit for the environment and my purse

We use cloth nappies full time, re-usable liners, and re-usable wipes with a home made concoction of Camomile tea, baby shampoo, baby oil and lavender oil to clean his peachy bottom .

I'll be checking this tread regularly for hints and tips

Does any one know if the nuts are ok to use if you have someone in family who is allergic to normal bio washing powder?? (prob a dead obv question but im slightly stupid you know) - as I can only use non bio with hubby and im fed up with our clothes never smelling of 'anything' so think these could be a good alternative as well as being friendlier

I did think that then wondered what it was in bio that my hubby would be allergic to? It brings him out in eczema type rash - im going to get some and try them, what different smells can you add?

Its prob the enzymes in bio thats why they reccomend non bio for bubbas. Would you like a small sample of mine to try before you buy?

i have a moon cup question. im a tampax wearer but i flood them out within 10 mins. TIM - the super dont fit, they swell to big and the regular hold next to nothing.

question - it says the mooncup sits lower, just how low? is there any leaking issues? mostly, can u tell its there??? it looks HUGE on the display pictres and almost like a funnel

my doctor suggested it might be a better idea for me as a few women had raved about them to him. althou he actually knew nothing about them!!!!!
