I found out yesterday that my friend who works at a nursey (where Izzy goes) (she is qualified btw!) only gets £5.82 an hour, so minimum wage I get £6.50 and £7.50 for the cleaning that I do (which was a huge difference from when I worked in IT, so a shock to me lol) - so she has to work a few more hours than me to get the same pay. I was really shocked because without being rude to people who do cleaning - its not rocket science and anyone with a bit of common sense can do it...so why is it paid more than a qualified nursery nurse who takes care of children and babies?! I always knew they were low paid, BUT I pay £40 a day to send Izzy there..which is, I believe, not cheap for nursery fees - so was a bit pissed off they think so little of their employees and pay them the smallest amount they can...while the bosses obviously get a nice pay packet for doing nowt Does anyone else get minimum wage for a job they actually trained to do?!

Most nursery nurses are paid roughly minimum wage round here. It's bad isn't it. They're looking after the most precious thing in the world! I was paid more than minimum wage whilst working as a waitress for heavens sake!

It's a shame that they get the minimum wage, but I get the impression that with a job like that you would be passionate about doing it, so the employers take the pi$$ and take advantage of the staff x

Thats disgusting!! Its the same with a lot of 'care industries'......personally I think they should be paid a very very healthy salary. Anyone who can entertain & care for children, elderly etc are worth their weight in gold!!!

(round here anyway) a lot of nursery assistants do it straight from school and the nurserys put them through college while they work there. they're probably justifying the shit pay cos they pay for the training (not that it makes it better). my OH's sister is a qualified hairdresser and was only getting apprentice pay (less than NMW), her employer was dodgy though
