| Olivers had a cold now for a good couple of weeks, but on Monday he had a slight temp, I controlled it with calpol and all was well, running round as per. Tuesday, bit grouchy but no temp..then tuesday night we had a really bad night, he was up on the hour every hour absoloutly crying his heart out, was in so much pain So gave him calpol/brufin intermittently as required. Daddy got him up this morning and he was still grouchy..I observed him through the day and he seemed to pick up again. Nap time comes and after an hr asleep he wakes heartbroken again Gave calpol and he went back to sleep..bless him, he's worn out I came to the conclusion he had an ear infection so rung doc's for an emergancy app. Gets there, app @ 4.45pm...didn't get called in until 5.55pm Doc checks him over, agrees that he has a slightly inflamed inner ear, and prescribed him EPHEDRINE NASAL DROPS (to clear his sinus' in the hope of draining his ears too). He did say the pharmacist will probably question the Px as its ment to be for 3yrs+ Gets to pharmacy and she says 'No - its for 12yrs+' So she goes to have a work with doctor by this time its 6.25pm and Moo's still had no tea. Anyhoo, pharmacist said 'we'll give you it, but you use it at your own risk cos its not been licensed for under 12's!' WTF??? Needless to say we came home very fecked off, non the wiser OH has rung NHS direct and is putting in a complaint about the whole situ, another doctor has rung us and was more like a politician as he still hasn't give us a proppa answer. Is it safe?? Little man is in bed now, i've just googled it and there are loads of sites that say people have administered it to babies for stuffy noses, I just don't know what to think. Confused.com!! Sorry for the rant ....and BREATHE |

| I thought he would have done and even the pharmacist said anti-b's is the usual course of action...but the doctor said they are advised not to give anti-b's willy-nilly and to try other meds 1st |

Am not risking the nasal drops prescribed and am just gunna try saline drops tomorrow I just feel like i've failed the little fella as we wasted so much time messing about at the blummin doc's all for nothing. |

| Honestly they are bloody useless!!! I would be confused too hun. You haven't failed him hunni - the stupid doctor has! poor little man When Hannah was born she got thrush in her mouth so HV came for her 7 day check told me to get her to the docs for some drops. So we get the prescription and he has given her Daktarin oral gel so I read the instructions - DO NOT USE FOR INFANTS UNDER 4 MONTHS! wtf? so I rang the docs back and the receptionist says whats the problem? how old is she? I said 10 days!!!! HV went mad saying she could have really choked on the stuff if we hadn't read the instructions and just given it her. FFS they are just useless! xx |

| I totally agree ladies, I know what he's going through cos I was forever getting ear infections when I was younger. Its excruciating I wish I could take it all away for him. I always trusted this doctor too as he's been our family doctor for decades, i'll be reluctant to see him again now. |

| Hope he has a good night, I had the same I took Hayden to the docs at around 10 months and was prescribed Medised... The pharmacy asked me to confirm who meds were for I said Hayden, pointing to pram and he said "no way" it's 6 years plus... I then went to collect other boys from school and was telling a couple of mum's and later one called me up and said she had a bottle in her cupboard which stated from 3 months... They had changed it ( re licensed) since she bought hers.... Shows how docs can get confused if they are always changing meds |

I know the thing they have about antibiotics not being given freely these days cos more people are being given them and resistance is building but if hes got the signs and a temp he needs the antibugs and id go back and speak to them again. C just had a course for her ear and was so much happier once it settled. Re the medised its recently been relicenced as have most cough medicines for kids that contain guafesinin after new studies have shown it can cause hallucination and at worst seizures in small people under a certain age so all over 6 now so if you have any older bottles id check em. |
