PostSubject: another sleep question - what would you do?   another sleep question - what would you do? EmptySat Oct 23, 2010 3:01 am

hmm so elijah seems pretty sure that he will stay up til 11pm/midnight every night which i have now accepted - we tried getting up at 8 every morning but it just made him miserable (and me haha) so i have been letting him get up a bit later, usually about 9.30/10am..

now if i left eli he would sleep til about 11am, but i kind of feel this is a bit late, even though that would be closer to his 12 hours a night......would you let him sleep??? i feel awful on days like today where i have to wake him to get him dressed and he crashes out again straight after - like i am depriving him...

i wonder why i want him up earlier than 11 when i could sleep til then too! not sure Sleep

Do you still try put him down earlier every night? Afie was sort of the same when he was younger not going to bed till 10/11 (but he wouldn't sleep til 11! jealous!) but i still tried him down at 8 every night and eventually he ended up going off at that time. Do you use a light show or anything? I found if he had something to look it he settled better?

I know you've probably tried everything but just what i did.

About the getting up i'd still probably get him up earlier. Even if he does fall asleep after i think it'd be better to get him used to waking up earlier Smile

yeah have u tried persisting putting him down at 8 or 9? he may whine and cry but prob cos its not the normal? i know its hard but i think if he continues to get used to go to bed at 11 or 12 then he will find it even harder to change as he gets older.

about getting him up - i wud continue to wake him up at the time that u do. alfie sleeps sometimes till 9am when i got to wake him up as if i didnt he wud prob sleep later do - even tho he goes down at 7.30.

i know i shouldn't give advice with ava's early rising but I defiately would try and put him down sooner. Ava goes to bed at 7pm, i wake her at 11pm still for a feed and then she sleeps till around 5.30 to 6.30.

As Amy said the longer you wait for a bedtime routine the harder it'll be, it's good for you as well so you can spend some time with OH without baby.

I agree with the other ladies too - I would keep trying to get him down earlier. Although if he sleeps till 10.30 am he wont want to go to bed at 8/9 so I would be tempted to get him up a bit earlier too - say 9am. I probably wouldn't do it all in one go though - try creeping it forward 1/2 hour at a time. If he goes to bed 11-11 then tomorrow try 10.30 - 10.30 etc, keep it the same for a few days then go for another half hour till you are happy with his routine.

Next week when the clocks go back you will be on a 10-10 routine automatically so that'll be a step in the right direction.

xx
