Does anyone else get it REALY BAD?? This morning every single window in the bungalow was completely soaked - it took me about 45 mins to chamois them dry again. We do unfortunately have huge windows (2 in the lounge - 1 is 240cm and the other is 180cm, the rest are 180cm) and although they are UPVC they are old and don't have the trickle vents in them so wondering if thats the problem? We've considered getting new windows but I'm not sure if that will help scratch

We had it really bad last winter too but because we had alot of replastering and decorating done we just assumed it was because of that (we've only been here for a year).

I don't know what the solution would be, we don't have the heating on at night (it got down to only 17 degrees last night) so don't know if thats why too??

Does anyone else get it? And if not how come - whats your secret??? Laughing

We have recently had new windows and even they get a little bit at the bottom of each bit of glass (so has my mum).

I have looked it up and the only way to really fix it is to get a dehumidifier xx

We get it but it has improved since we got a dehumidifier. You need to let the air in too but it's a bit difficult when it's freezing! Keeping the heating on longer should help too xxx

We bought a dehumidifier last year (because of all the plastering/decorating we were doing) so might have to dig that out again.

We don't hang washing in the house because I know that causes more. We're going to have the heating on some of tonight and see if that helps.

Laura, it does sound like maybe we need new windows then because it's not just a bit at the bottom it's the whole window that gets completely soaked.

Probably get our regular guy in to quote in the spring.

Thanks everyone xx

we had it the first year, short term solution - moisture traps, they are about £3 from the range, im sure you could get them ellsewhere too but they really work well, we dont get condensation very much now and the traps are full of water so we have to replace them every 4-5 months.

I live in a flat with double glazing throughout, and every year once the weather turns a bit colder each window is covered in condensation when i get up. Have to wipe every single window each day. Yesterday and today are the 1st times ive had to get out the cloth.

Niccsy, I did think about getting those moisture traps but we would need to get one for each window sill (9 windows) so would cost a fair bit.

Nutty, it's so annoying isn't it!!

Fingers crossed having the heating on more will help a bit. xx

i got them from the range, they were £3 but they are croc odour ones, they are really good, i do recommend them, we have 4 around the house.
another cheaper option is leaving a couple of windows around the house on night vent. We do this in the kitchen and bathroom so its not cold anywhere we spend a lot of time.

Beans room is worst - and it was down to 14 degress this morning, with windows shut! They have no vents... Urgh. Going to get mold at this rate, too much moisture. Every morning I wipe them down, open windows on latch - they get closed for nap time but open again later in the day (except if it's raining - I figure MORE damp air isn't going to help any Laughing )

Will have to do a bit more surfing on the net, £3 sounds good but with ebay etc. you obviously pay for the convenicence of delivery. These b&q ones looked good - refillable too - is that the kind? x

these are them, i think mine are a little smaller which is why they were 3 not 4.

We're half an hour from anything Rolling Eyes well, except b&q it seems Laughing
They look good - can put in wardrobe too.

The range have online shop but don't do the traps on it - I wonder if there's a little hardware shop in town... it's hard to think when your brain only works in chain store names scratch

Maybe have to trawl home bargains, quality save if not xx

Ooo - just thought - there is a funny little shop that sells screws and things - it is literally called "The shop with no name" Shocked Laughing may try there - ta x

We have got those moisture traps and although they fill with water they make no difference what so ever. Have the vents open as well.

oh btw Robert Dyas sell moisture traps as well and the refills for them.

It's defo your windows...they need replacing as the pressurized gas in between the panes is probably no longer. Or if single pane, there is some sort of leak issue going on. When cold damp air meets warm interior air..the result is water dripping down your windows. We have crappy windows as well, and what we do apply that window cling/film to block out the drafts during the winter...you have to blow dry it on, but it does work for now. xx

Ah thanks Jen, thought as much - looks like we'll have to get new windows then Rolling Eyes

We've dug out the dehumidifier and that's going at the moment and will be for a few hours see if that's any better. xx

The windows we have at the moment are UPVC double glazed, but really old (I'm sure when we bought the house it mentioned 1994 ish) so are due a change anyway, I don't like the look of them either so it's a good excuse Laughing xx

Oh I don't know why you get it then? scratch

Well we had the heating on for a couple of hours last night and Simon put it on when he went to work at 5, we also had the dehumidifier on for a few hours before bed and ours and Libby's bedroom windows were soaked, the other bedroom and the rest of the bungalow were alot better than yesterday. x

Since having our new windows it has made a huge difference. We still get a little bit at the bottom, prob about half an inch, but it soon goes away.

Before we had them our entire windows were covered in condensation.

Hopefully you will find some pretty reasonable if you do decide to. I found a great company where I live who did them for a good price x
