"free" private test for group b strep??

oops, ok, so you pay the lab... but how much?!

I have no idea what that is but it says free 'kit' but you have to pay the lab when you send it in. So basically you are getting an evelope and a couple of swabs as far as I can tell

I think i had it done in Cyprus, i had a few blood tests ect cant rem which one was what now though but i paid between 80euros to 120euros x

Yep, cost me 30euros every time i went to an appointment which was usually every month...and 3000euros for the c section, an an extra few hundered for the 'after care' and hospital stay

To be honest, I have never heard of it, but reading the reviews at the bottom of the post made me freak out a little and for the sake of £32 then I am all for it.

I am 33+3 today so it should be here in plenty of time. I will do it at 35 weeks and keep you updated with what happens x

Is there a reason your not being tested by the midwives?
I had blood tests in my second pregnancy because I was found to have group b strep after I'd delivered in my first labour.

By the looks of it, it doesnt seem to be a 'popular' thing to test for as it doesnt happen very often. They probably think that the cost is too much for the few cases that are found.

They don't test for it on the NHS - only when a woman goes in early with minor ailments or problems etc. they may test for it (urine infection, spotting, etc.) and it "may" show up.

I know someone who had it and was ony picked up by chance, baby ended up in SCBU while on meds and in for observation. They had no idea at the time - she was just told by a MW "oh, and I see you have step B" - she was --> 'really?!'

OK so I e-mailed them and they said "As indicated on the product details, the fee for processing the test at the laboratory is £32"
Well sorr-ee!

I did look again and it's in the middle of a paragraph, under 'How to Order your Test Kit' - so it seems I was missing something!

Still, they should take account of hormone-induced-blindness and make it a bit more obvious rather than plaster 'FREE' all over it!

Now to read up and weigh it up - and see if you can't demand a test on nhs
