Hello I told the MW I dont want to stay in hospital, as long as everything goes ok with birth and baby is fine etc. and she has put on my notes 6 hour discharge and to make sure as soon as I go in hosp I tell them that. I was wondering if anyone else had done this and what I need to do to make sure this happens (if anything other than saying) The reason I want to do this is I find it very stressful (even though they were great at the hosp) in hospital and had to stay in 2 nights with Hannah because she wouldnt bf properly and I swear the only reason they didnt keep me any longer was as the 2nd night I buzzed them everytime she wanted feeding to tell me excatly what I was doing wrong, which turned out to be nothing (which they had said all along but were adament to keep me in) I also found that after having no sleep the night b4 and 2 nights following, mostly down to things going on on ward etc, that I was completely knackered and as soon as I got home slept for the whole day and hubby looked after Hannah. x

I had this on my notes, I gave birth at 3.50am and got out the same night at 1700. I would have been discharged sooner but I hadn't produced enough water. It was great because i got to stay in a private room instead of beng transferred to a ward.

I wish I'd known about this. I ended up staying 2 nights and didn't get home until 18:30. However the reason I had to stay was that there was no one available to discharge me. (paeds emergency)

i never had this put on my notes but i think it's a common thing to do that for 2nd timers who have a smooth birth...i got offered to go home within 6hours, even though it actually took 8hours they have to make sure you at least do a wee before letting you leave....i had a private room too btw!!

i wanted this but Edith pooed so thats automatically 24hour obs in my hozzie (well not mine but you know what i mean) it just means you dont have to wait to see a doc to discharge you and you have to sign a disclaimer i think (sil had it) to say you are aware of what you have to do if you have any problems later on

For some reason I got my own room anyway! I wonder if it was because I didn't get onto the ward until 01:30? The next lady to pop after me got her own room too.

| I did this, well In theory I was going to lol but the doctor who had to check Izzy was late! However had he been on time we would have gone after 6 hours - I just wanted to go!
I actually transferred to my local mw unit, but I could have just gone home if I wanted.
Make sure you tell them as soon as you move to the ward with your baby - so the doctor can come and check you early enough! |

it's more usual with a second baby, everyone on my ward was out before tea time and i was the only one there overnight (i wanted to stay though). my OH's sister was out the same day (had her son at lunchtime out at tea time) because she refused to stay in, she hates hospitals

with my first I had him 6pm left 8am, with my 2nd (he wouldn't feed stayed in 28 hours). With Hayden I just booked a home birth and everything went smoothly so I never had to go into hospital at all.... The pead nurse came in next morning to check Hayden and midwife checked my stitches daily - home births rock!!!!!! My friend had her third baby recently - she was born at 19.30, friend was home by 22.30 no stitches nothing.... Jammy cow

I would have a home birth but if there was any reason to go to hospital, I would have to go to the nearest one as the crow flies - which is not my hospital of choice (for obvious reasons from the crappy time with 1st baby!) Sooo have booked in at another hospital instead and hoping it all goes much better. Here's hoping - touch wood, say a prayer, etc. x

I had Andrew at 4:22am and was out at 3pm the same day even though it was a normal delivery with complications. He was well and seemingly untraumatised by the whole experience of being born not breathing, they were going to discharge me earlier but they had to fill in a whole essay of disclaimers etc cuz he was born early as well, had a few complications at birth etc etc... I stayed in the maternity suite whilst I waited to be discharged, I just chilled, slept, fed the baby, got some room service (the food was fab) had another little doze then went home it was a totally fab experience. The 6 hours thing is called DOMINO so you should ask to be on the DOMINO scheme and write it on your birth notes too in caps and underlined (I did so they knew what I did and did not want lol) xxxxxx

I had Abbie at 10.08am and was home in time for the 6 o'clock news that night!! It was far better being able to just get into your own bed and get on with being a mummy, better than the 2 nights I spent in hossie with Lottie. As a result I felt much and I think this is why I felt so much better 2nd time round. xx

Oh wow I hadn't heard of this either, if all goes well I shall definately be asking for this!! With Libby I was admitted on the Wednesday due to severe high BP and they finally induced me on the Saturday morning, she was born at 2pm on the Saturday and I still didn't get to go home til the Sunday evening (and that was touch and go, they wanted me to stay in to keep an eye on me still). I just hope to god that my BP stays normal and I get to experience spontaneous labour!!!! Good luck hun, hope it goes well and your home nice and quickly xx
