PostSubject: going back to work   going back to work EmptyFri Oct 22, 2010 9:37 pm

im due to go back to work in January (unfortunately) but i havent heard anything from work yet to ask me when im going back bla bla. Should i be ringing them up or should they contact me? Also, do u think theyd be able to tell me what wage i wud get on different hours - just so i can work out my childcare?

The thing is im kinda hoping its not gonna be worth me going back and ill just get a crappy job in a little shop round near me. I really want to spend as much time as possible with Alfie and am not looking forward to putting him into a nursery so soon :-(

Employers arent actually allowed to contact you about returning to work hun - they have to assume you will turn up to work as usual 12 months to the day after you started your mat leave. If you want to return before the 12 months - i.e. after 9 months when SMP stops - then you have to give them written notice. Mine was 28 days but other companies may be different?

Have you applied to do different hours or have they offered you different? If you get an hourly rate you can work it out from there.

xx

We havent discussed any hours but i think they know i want to go back part time. Im on a salary so not sure of how much i will get paid per hour?

I will have to phone my boss next week i think to arrange going in for a meeting. I am planning on going back after 9 months which will be Jan.

amy if you are changing your hours you'll need to do a flexible working request, you can maybe contact them first informally to ask about the wage difference. in your request you'll need to put what days/hours you want to work.
