| Its cuz Halloween has developed a reputation as being a holiday which celebrates the occult and demonic side of religion so certain religious peeps have got their knickers in a knot about the propriety of celebrating such an event on a sunday. I can recall once when i was about 8 being screamed at by some weird bloke out his front door how we were glorifying satan and should be ashamed of ourselves. I suspect he got egged... The truth is halloween is derived from All Hallows Eve and Samhain. Halloween is a scottish version of hallows eve. Samhain is the end of the light end of the year and the start of the dark end and the end of the harvest. The belief was the gateway between the living and the dead was more accessible at this time allowing the dead to reach back through and people would dress as spirits to mimic or placate the ghosts of the dead. All Hallows is an older form of all saints day (nov 1st) a day that consecrates the saints and martyrs and is inherently christian! So if anyone fusses you are trick or treating on a sunday tell em to shove it up their nose |

| i was never allowed to go trick or treating when i was little. my mam used to say it was clssed as "begging" - so i cant wait to take alfie out when hes older. Ive got him a little skeleton costume for this yr and will take him round my family.

x Ah but the thing is most non religious days like naming days, seasonal holidays etc are a bastardisation of christian religions anyway so technically you are. But then again after that most christian religious days are bastardisations of pagan or sun religion occasions so most people id say do as you feel, most things can be excused away these days |
