What a waste of chuffing time _
PostSubject: What a waste of chuffing time   What a waste of chuffing time EmptySat Oct 30, 2010 3:01 am

'cos I seem to get 'em :roll

Saw mw - wanted a check up after all bladder / abdominal pains I'd had and blood showing in urine. Also, after my scan, the hosp MW's wanted to see me at 22 wks - which I missed and didn't make due to illness anyway - so thought I'd get a visit in to local mw's now instead.

Wellllll...
1) she couldn't really figure why I was there
2) checked my urine, didn't tell me result
3) ^ same with bp (will have to check my notes as I actually have no idea what it was!)
4) used doppler and was faffing about on my left saying it was awkward to hear - making out I was being a pain by not lying flat (SPD as I told her - bugger off luv!) - rather than just swish about / try the right side (where I've always heard it on our angelsounds btw)
5) made a fuss about my next appt - as apprently I was "out of sync" now Rolling Eyes
6) buggered off to reception without so much as a goodbye / goodluck / I'm off to file these now or anything?!

RAAAGH! Seriously, do they teach people skills at MW college?! Because I've honeslty met ONE good one out of at least a dozen!!

Embarassed rant over, sorry to vent ladeis Embarassed
But it was such a pain to bundle bean in the car (who I had to wake Sad ) lift pram in&out, drive over loads of speed bumps etc. - all for a useless MW who I then had to ASK about giving me my HIP grant form; the one thing she could actually do that was useful!! No

Tired now. xx

I don't know anyone who's ever had a good experience with midwives, thankfully next time I will be consultant led after their allmighty cockup that led to Ollie dying!

hun, i had such a prob with the mw when i had rich i swopped to another community mw.

she wouldnt let me hear the babies heartbeat and said that i was a young mother (i was 23) and that single moms dont know what they are doing.. (i was single)

i came out in tears my mom had took me but didnt come in the appointment, saw my tears and went in and told her where to go....

but this one seems ok, but can talk, god.....

the mw i had when i had rich was amazing and lovely.

there seems to be some awful ones out there. my usual one is good but not terribly proactive. the one covering for her on holiday this week seems more proactive but has the personality of a bulldog and i seemed to be on some sort of high speed conveyer belt for all the time she had

Oh hunni, does she not realise that actually your entitled to see a MW as many times as 'you' wish throughout your pregnancy and there such and such a week appointments are just a guide.

My MW seems ok, although ive only had my booking appointment with her. There is another one that I saw at drop in who is fab but she doesnt cover my surgery booo!!

Also what you said about the HB my sister said when she was pregnant her babies HB was always picked up on her right, whereas mine is picked up left.

It's weird that you think of it as a caring profession yet they are mostly dragons!

I must admit though being seriously acident prone, I've spent many an evening at A&E and I've never encountered a nasty nurse! Perhaps the are just better at hiding it than midwifes lol

Lol personally i just spend a lot of time ranting in the staff room. Im not defending poor care or practice and mistakes which should not be made i guess sometimes we forget how many professions are short staffed and only human after all. That said ive heard some shocking stories too and if i was grace id have told that midwife a few things when she started

It just does my fruit cake in that most don't seem fulfil their basic job description (and heaven forbid anything above & beyond!) and alot of what they ramble about comes across as hear-say or general waffle (or they say back to you what you've said to them, in a slightly different way!)
I came away thinking that nhs midwife 'care' is pretty crap - they're happy to leave you to it, not allay any fears or put mind at ease - I can imagine private is a very different story scratch same for physio with my spd - last time I got sent away with a prescription for enough paracetamol to kill a mule and the words "come back if you need crutches". Shocked cheers. At least this time I've had some exercises to try!

Luckily the MW's at the hospital seem 'nicer' - but have had very little contact with them (booking in apt then brief chat to sort appts) so fingers crossed... so long as I get a gem for labour Wink

Thinking about it though the midwife who actually delivered Ollie was amazing, you could tell she actually loved her job, she even came in on the saturday so she could personally discharge me and attended his funeral. She came to see me a couple of weeks ago with the order of service from his funeral, she's gone on compassionate leave because she's so apalled at the way they handled everything and is looking for a new job in a different trust!

Gosh Olliesmammy, that's both lovely and shocking at the same time (with her care but also moving job).
I'm not sure I've said before, and even less sure that you want to hear it, but I really am so sorry for you losing your little one. There are no words to comfort but I really hope that you get the clear answers, support and reassurance you deserve.

The MW situation just takes the pi$$ as they are caring for two people - and it's when you are literally at your most vulnerable and in most need of reassurance I think - add hormones into the mix and they really (most) should know and do better. After birth I never saw the same MW twice for after care. I'm going to a diff hosp this time so I think the local MWs (who work from another hosp altogether, where I had 1st bub) just see my notes and dismiss me as "one of them" - as they know they'll not have anything to do with the birth.
I would add up just how many I've come in contact with but it's at least 12/13 and literally only one was any good. I asked for her by name - three times - before being told "well, she doesn't usually cover your area". I should have put her in a cupboard and kept her! Along with a good gp, dentist, solicitor and mechanic - I'd be set for life Wink Laughing xx
