Matt is properly starting his new job 22nd nov which means he'll be living and working away mon-fri every week. I was talking to some ladies at my toddler group about this and they said because he'll be away more than at home i'll be counted as a single mum and get all my housing paid for me. Now this doesn't seem right to me, we'll still be married (i'm ignoring the fact we're on a break atm), and i'll still have access to his money. I can't seem to find any info on this. One of them said when their partner worked away during the week she was classed as single and had her rent paid and got more of other benefits, do you think she was just fiddling the system or is this actually how it works? xx

I don't know tbh, but I would assume you're still classed as a couple as it;s income coming into the household. I'd give HMRC a call and find out for sure x

THe rules may be different though if he's working away and actually registered as living with you x |

I'd give your local council a ring, you may get help with council tax but not sure about the rest. Your individual council will be the ones giving housing benefit if you are entitled. Like you say tho, you still have the same income so I'm not sure if you will get any more.

Yeah it was me. Me and Stuart are engaged. When Caitlin was born I lived with mum so they counted me as single for tax credits. (Didnt get housing benefit obviously because lived at home). Then when I moved out last Nov I informed both tax credits & housing benefit that I was engaged but Stuart only stayed here at weekends, which is true. They said that he didnt stay enough to be classed as living together. Sun-Thur Stuart stays at his mums who gets carers allowance for him due to his epilepsy. TC & HB have always been accepting of my circumstances but I donty know if its because Stuart is registered as disabled and there was quite a lot of reasons he couldnt live here full time. I dont know if it would be different because you & Matt have been living together & this is a work arrangement. Ring & check. In normal circumstances someone has to be staying either 4/5 nights a week to be deemed as living together. I mentioned this on AB and a few people got a bit narky about it. I dont make the rules and have been 100% honest when claiming. I always feel so defensive about this . Stuart has to pay rent to his mum, plus a high % of his DLA & she gets the carers allowance. If you are on a break though hun dont be ashamed to admit it and inform tax credits. No point you and immi struggling. New claims can take weeks to process. Like I said ring them anyway. Iv a feeling working away is probably different but there's no harm in checking. x Hope you get it sorted. xxx

Awww Shell You shouldn't be defensive Snoops, you've been 100% honest with TC it's their policy not yours!, It's probably because if someones living away 4/5 nights a week they've obs got their own bills to pay wherever they live x
