| LOL sorry its a bit random! So if someone didn't pay their council tax and went to prison, cos it does happen! When they come back out do they still owe the tax, or has the prison spell 'paid' for it?! Seems crazy that it would bearing in mind the public has paid for them to 'stay' in prison anyway! I reckon it should still be owed...otherwise a few months in prison for some might be worth it to save a years tax We were just discussing it cos our council is horrendous, £1600 a year, and joked that I could go to prison for a few months, save on the food bill etc...but then thought not a good idea if still owe it afterwards. Dan said it would have to me that volunteered cos I am a woman and its better to be a woman as men get bummed...charming eh that he'd send me! So there you go random question of the day?! Anyone know? p.s seriously I am not actually considering this! |

| PMSL. I think it would cancel the debt but then you would have to obviously start paying again. the prison sentence is there to stop you doing it again.

| You can't actually go to prison for not paying your debts. If you didn't pay your council tax, the court would rule you would have to pay a certain amount each week, then if you defaulted on that then you could get sent to prison for failing to keep the court order rather than non-payment of the debt, so as it's a separate matter, so I guess the debt would still stand |

| Lol, not bad if you can get a short sentence for, say, not paying it for 3 years x |

| I've just asked my oh, he works for local council, dealing with council tax, and you still have to pay it after you've been to prison, so your plan wouldn't work, lol! |

lol, well it should be that way really shouldn't it - I have no doubt some people would never pay and just go to prison instead if they could |
