Ok, hope everyone stays with this??!

I get SMP only atm from the NHS at about £500 ish quid a month, and im considering taking on a locum job for the next 8 weeks only (been offered one today at fab money!)

Can I still have my SMP?? I will be returning as normal to my job at the end of my mat leave.

Ive checked online and loads of people are saying you have have 2 jobs and claim smp....but I can only find info where ladies have had both jobs prior to getting pg

id ring the job centre hun and explain its only for 8 weeks either that or just dont mention it x

you are only allowed to work for 10 days for your own company in your case your local NHS trust and claim smp hun especially if its paid y a company and not government x

Nope . As said you can only do 10 keeping in touch days where you are employed xx

Can I do the locum job, tell my employer to stop my smp, but not return til the end of my mat......I want to do the locum job as much for the experience as the money!!!

I think that would depend on your employer as you are effectvely ending your maternity leave by going back to work

hmmm as Kayleigh says its up to your employer - if you stop SMP and dont return then in effect you are resigning and they have no reason to keep the job open...basically being on SMP is the only thing prtecting your job unless your employer says otherwise
