First topic message reminder :

sorry ladies im just having a minor breakdown and a major confusion - i know that some people won't be happy giving me this info but i don't need figures just a sort of idea...

if you stay at home voluntarily (i.e left a job after maternity leave or left to look after your child) do you receive any help from the government?

do you receive child tax credits or anything else?

it seems that we would be worse off if i went back to work as we both work shifts so childcare will be costly...and if i go back part-time most of that will be either eaten up by childcare or taken off the tax credits so not really worth it?

i know ive posted about this millions of times but im totally stuck Laughing i don't particularly want to rely on benefits at all as i am able to work, but hubby's income is only around £600 a month and we cannot live on that!

they won't tell me - i need to a)inform them that i have left work or b)inform them of my new hours - those are my choices! and i said well i can't really make an informed decision about what to do without knowing about tax credits and she just sort of repeated the same thing again Laughing

i think i will just have to leave and hope for the best at this rate, i don't want to risk going back into work and getting trapped! i will tell them in jan that i am no longer on paid maternity (but still have a job til march) and see how much i get - that should give me a decent idea of how much we will have...

tricky tricky! scratch

I left work after maternity leave because they couldnt over me hours i need to fit around ohs work he is the main earner by far. For me to go back n put callum in nursery by the time i payed for his fees i would be bringing home less then i earned Shocked as oh pays for everything other than my insurance, sky and phone/internet which i pay for.

I get CB and CT which cover my bills and leaves me about £80 a month but like i said thats with oh paying rent/electric/council tax/food etc etc
OH is entilted to £40 off council tax and £40 WFT a month xx
