As some of you may know i went overdue by 14 days so after 2 attempted sweeps i was taken in to be induced...
monday 2/8
after arriving at the hospital at 3pm, i was shown to my room, on the pregnancy assessment unit, by 4pm i had an examination (very uncomfy!!) they were tryin to find my cervix, which was weeeeey posterior and very high up... very difficult to insert pessary close to cervix.
by 5pm i was put on the baby monitor
7.45pm i started to have slight back ache, which i was very glad for...
by 8.20pm i was having tightenings and bad back ache every 3 mins (but only lasting for about 10-15 secs) left to stew until 10.30pm where i had another examination..(thinking i was in labour!) but hey ho still nothing, no change at all!! given codeine and paracetemol and told to sleep...kinda hard when i was contracting every 3mins!!
hardly any sleep...wke up at 5am, 6.30am another examination...no change!! pain easing off and eventually nothing.
9am had monitoring and obs done, 9.15 another examination...cervix was lower
and mw touched babys head (JUST!!) told i was to have another pessary (which i was really not happy about at all...seen as tho i was contracting so strongly the night before on just one pessary!!) 11.20 am monitored again...sick of having those darn yellow bands on my tummy!! makes walking around to get rid of contractions impossible
by 12.45pm had to call for codeine--- pains!! contractions even stronger then the day before, coming every 3 mins and lasting for between 40 and 50 seconds!! 3.15pm another load of monitoring and another very painful examination...no change!!
3.15pm until 10pm left to contract
10-15pm had yet ANOTHER examination and was told i was 2cms!!
at this point i was soooo depressed because i thought i was well on my way and i could have some pain relief but no such luck
got really upset because was told mum and OH had to leave me and come back in morn (so they and myself could get some rest!) but i was sooo tired and didnt want to be left alone!! was offered a small shot of diamorphine to sleep (as they knew id have to have my waters broke and started on the drip in the morning!!) mw eventually agreed to my mum staying...and adam got to go home and sleep!! (lucky git
)
5.45am got woken up, taken to the labour ward eventually
6am put on the darn monitor again!!
7am waters were broken...the most weird feeling ever...yet slightly relaxing
put on the syntocin drip at 3mls/p/h ...
9am advised to have epidural as pains would become very severe (and id always wanted epi anyway, so asked for it to all happen)
epi wasnt bad at all.. a little uncomfy when having a contraction, but able to breathe through it...started to feel really warm and comfy...calmed me alot
felt like getting into a warm bath...but just on ur legs lol
by 12pm was having pains down below ...but nowehere else, opted for a bit of gas and air...made me giggle if i took more than 4 puffs
(there were curtains with purple flowers on and i was saying they were sexy apparently
)
by half 1 i was feeling a weird sensation , maybe as if i needed to push...but i was unsure as i cudnt feel anything other than privates...
2pm had an examination, and was totally shocked and overwhelmed when i was told i was 8 (nearly 9cms) and nearly ready to push!!!! so scared, but unbelieveably relieved and excited
3.30pm another examination, fully dilated
told to push when i had the urge!!
whilst pushing benjamin had to have his bloods from his head taken a total of 3 times
owwwchie (dropping heart rate!!)
by 4pm i was pushing like a mad woman, but baby b's head was coming out at the largest point, given episiotomy and then told i would be having ventouse delivery, it was thhhheee most painful feeling ever!! but i am proud to say i never said the eff word
just bolloc ks haha
5mins left of pushing before they took me for c section-- heart rate was starting to drop
in my head i was thinking "no way after 14 days of being overdue and 2 days of agonising pain am i going to have a c section!!" i pushed until purple in the face and within two huuuuge pushes benjamin's head, then body was born...he was placed straight onto me--he looked straight @ me!! so beautiful!!
daddy cut the cord and he was checked over...i turned from watching baby b to see the doctor stitchin me up!!
had stitches inside and out :(id torn sooo much off benjamins big cone head lol
Beautiful Benjamin born into the world screaming so loud (it gave grandma a bad head!!) weighing in at 9lbs and 2oz (first baby!!) born 16 days past his due date on the 4th august 2010 at 4.25pm
lost a litre of blood, so very faint and dizzy...had to have a catheter in, as epidural had numbed me...baby b was fine until the followin day, when he had trouble sucklin and keeping feed down...mucousy tumtum
thursday, day after he was born-- baby bs feeding was monitored as he was only takin 15mls every few hours and vomiting most of it back up!
friday, he was a yellowy colour and his eyes were yellow too...so was told to move to our own private room (which was nice
) and he was put onto lightbed...bless him
paediatrician came to see him, and was told he may have to have camera put into stomach
i was very teary at this point
decided to try him on tube feed first...which he was a lot better with
he was taking 30mils every few hours, then upped to 40mils
and he was keeping it all down
taken off the tube on saturday evening, and took to bottles straight away, was taking 40mils
upped to 50mils on sunday, and was keeping that down too
had lotttts of heel pricks done to test his level of jaundice, off and on the lightbed all the time...bless his feet are soooo bruised and sore
told it looked hopeful that we'd be home the next day...tested at 130am (monday 9th) for his jaundice levels, and results came back that he was well enough to go home
so at 2.15pm (exactly a week to the day and time of leaving home to go to hospital!!) we were driven back home
I'd do it all again as it was the most amazing, overwhelming, beautiful thing i could ever imagine
(and not at all as painful as i thought it'd be)
