Took my mum home last night in the car about 9pm. Parked my car behind Karl's car when i got back. We live on a hill btw. When i woke up this morning my car had gradually slid down the hill on the ice overnight and is now bumper to bumper with his car The handbrake is right up as well !!!

lol, after what happend with my friend when she left her handbrake off in the A+E dept i always leave mine in 1st just in case

What dif does keeping it in 1st make? I know people that do this but iv always thought if the car was on a hill it would just roll anyway?

it locks the wheels, but wouldn't have made a difference to mine because it was on a sheet of snowy ice x

yeah i have a dodgy handbrake at the mo so always just have to rely on it being in 1st...really should get that looked at ...oh yeah um durrrrr didnt even cross my mind that leaving it in 1st wouldnt stop it sliding, im so blonde sometimes x

Leaving it in first would stop it rolling if the hand brake failed, but not alot will stop em going in the ice!

What you need to do Leah is scratch all the snow and ice away from where you park with a shovel/spade...then put old towels/rugs down and park on that...then shake it off before you park again.

Yeah I always leave it in gear and turn the wheels into the kerb depending whether im facing up or down hill
