i know they say to do it by 6 months but i cant get ava to use a beaker yet, i use a doidy cup for her water but for the volume of milk she needs i have to use a bottle with a teat, she hasn't got any teeth yet but the hv said i shouldn't be using them as they may cause dental problems, has anyone got any suggestions?

Nope! Caitlin still at 16mths has a bedtime and morning btl (though takes feck all ounces). She does take beaker for water & juice durng the day so its just handyness on my part for making up the formula (btls clearly marked in oz/scoops).

I thought the thinking was to encourage a beaker from 6mths and discourage btl from 12 mths. You have plenty of time to switch over! I think your HV is being too fuusy! Ava is in the transition period and it sounds 100% normal.

If you really wanted you could try a few dif cups, maybe suction action ones with valves to start with (they have to suck to get milk out & its not just falling out and startling them). Doesnt really help with the volume issue tough!

all i can suggest is my h.v said that we should be using beakers for everything (ummm i cant fit a beaker to my boob Neutral ) - you can get larger ones at mothercare etc which look like maybe 9oz size? i think they come in non-drip and freeflow, but that probably isnt very helpful!

I wouldnt worry at all, most babies dont take a beaker til later than 6 months

Izzy refused flatly to take milk from anything but her bottle for ages, then suddenly it was ok and she now only has beakers for juice, water and milk

She doesn't take much milk now though, I make her 5oz but she nearly always leaves that, but she still sleeps at least 12 hours so she doesnt seem to need it.

There are some big enough for 8oz or so, I had the same issue that izzy was taking 8/9oz and didn't even fit in a beaker, but by the time she decided beakers for milk were ok she had started to take less.

with braden he was off bottles by 8 months, but i used trainer cups with him, a whole range of different onnes...it got stupid trying to find 'the best'

with dita i took her off bottles at 6 months and straight on to the tommy tippee first cup, the really simple one lidded with 3 holes in the mouth bit and she never had any probs with that, she drinks her milk out of it in the morning but i do give her a nuby trainer cup at night cos she usually doesnt finish her milk and i dont want it all over the cot lol

Niccsy or anyone really -

How do you giv formula in a sippy cup. Most of the cups/beaker I have dont have fluid oz/ml markings so to make formula id have to make it up in a btl and then pour into a cup. Im too lazy to faff about with that and dirty two things at at time Embarassed . Caitlin still cant take cows milk so is on her hydrolised (sp) formula from dr. I think if I could just pour milk straight in it would be easier...

the tommee tippee one has mls on the side (the one niccsy is talking about) and you can get it from tesco - but i dont think its that large (maybe 5oz?)

When i swapped to cows milk in the day (is bf once at night) I found a Cow Cup. ITs brill, it looks like a cow in the pattern but is a beaker, sophia used to tell me she wanted milk by pointing to it.

Have you trued one of thors tmmee tippee first sips ones? Its just a soft spout that you can pput on a bottle instead of a teat. Worked with Sophia when she was younger.
