PostSubject: Pancakes & crumpets   Pancakes & crumpets EmptySat Dec 18, 2010 11:41 pm

Whats the difference between a pancake and a crumpet? Iv just had a crumpet for the 1st time, Amy on here was talking about them recently and then I spied them in Tesco and thought Id give them ago. (God I live life in the fast lane dont I Rolling Eyes )

While they were nice... they just looked and tasted like pancakes with holes in them. Are they meant to taste like that?

Oh and also do you guys have potato bread in England? A few people I know who have left NI complain they cant get it anywhere Shocked Laughing .

Well pancakes are usually flat and slightly sweetened over here (somepeople call them dropscones) and crumpets are thick and holey and unsweetened so you can have them savoury with butter or melted cheese or sweet with jam/peanut butter/nutella. Me and Thomas love both and we are spoilt coz we get as many as we want free from OHs work (kingsmill).

I don't really know what potato bread is but we do have potato cakes which are a bit like pancakes made from potato that I love fried in the same pan as bacon for breakfast mmmmmmmm

You're making me hungry snoopy! stop it! Wink

Are you thinking of like American pancakes? cause for me a pancake, not shop bought is really different. Thinner, bigger, different taste. But I guess i could see what you mean if you were thinking of shop bought American style pancakes.

I have no idea what potato bread is.

Yep those are the ones snoop! I love them on a fry up. Prefer them to hash browns. You can get potato bread in supermarkets Michelle (kingsmill do them too Razz) they are usually in the bakery bit near bagels and soda bread etc.

We have pancakes toasted with butter too. Yummy.

I'll have to try and find them then in the supermarket. I'm one of those shoppers that just get the same thing every week I never notice other stuff. Laughing x

Love tattie scones, when we drive to the highlands we stop in a lil layby just outside of glen coe to see the 'tattie scone man', he has a mobile kitchen there and always have a tattie scone in a bun. Carbtastic

See now i know there's a dif between scotch crumpets and english crumpets im not convinced Northern Irish potato bread is the same as potato cakes or potato scones, I could be wrong though! I'l look out for a kingsmill one and see if its the same, any one's Iv had are Northern Irish brands eg ormo. Or do you have sunblest? I think they do potato bread.

Its scrummy fried in pan. I would offer to post you some but with the post atm it would prob be out of date by the time it arrived Laughing
