As some of you may know my MIL died in May this year. Everybody was obnv gutted - she left 4 gorgeous boys (one being my hubby of course) and her husband. Less than a month later my FIL had another g/f who happened to be one of her best friends.

At first he said it ws just company which every1 understood but not hes practically living with her and theyre all soppy in front of each other which tbh i think is just vile!

I understand he is prob lonely but to be doing this in front of your kids when there mam has just passed away 7 months ago is awful.

Anyway i got a phone call off my SIL before saying that my FIL has told them that his gf has bought all of us xmas presents. This leaves us with the dilema of wat shoudl we do? Tbh, my hubby is still so fragile from it he just said "so *$%£" and got quite upset about it.

So should we buy her summat (even tho were so skint since weve hd to fork out £600 on the car this month) or just act suprised when she gives us the presents and say "you shouldnt have"?

I think I would just get a bottle of wine or something. If you dont feel it is suitable to give it to her on the day then dont.

I feel really sorry for your OH. It must really hurt him to see his dad with somebody else so soon x

gav must be devastated , it's an awful situation to be in. if it was me I would get a token gift but you have to do what feels right for you. x

I think it's all too soon and to be honest I think she sounds a bit pushy by buying you all presents as buying presents is what family and friends do.

I wouldn't buy her anything but would be very polite and friendly and say thanks when she gives you all presents.

i would probably just get your fil a sort of 'shareable' present...not put who its to on the tag and put from amy gav and alfie - that way its not to her...and its not *not* to her if you see what i mean?

if it were me though i would just tell my fil i wasn't interested and i felt it was too soon and leave it at that im selfish like that

yeah theyre all gutted tbh. its so hard. the youngest boy is only 17 and hes always been treated as "the baby" and he told me that he feels like hes lost a mam and a dad this year. its so guttering to listen to. me and gav are obv out of it a bit as weve got oour own fmaily nd house now but theyre all at home still.

i just want to smack his dad really and tell him to sort himself out. if they stilll feel the same way in a yrs time then fine but a month was far too soon.

similar thing happened in Oh's family, his sister died suddenly when she was 30 and had two young kids, her hubby had another gf within two weeks and went on hols to turkey with the kids. David's mum has never got over it.

yep his dad took her and the youngest on holiday to turkey in august!!! but didnt tell him till they picked her up - apparantly he just presumed he wud know! awfukl!

That's so awful. It happened with one of our neighbours but he got together with his dead wifes sister and they were married within 6 months I personally wouldn't buy her anything but if you'll feel awkward you could just get her a token box of chocs or something? Poor Gav must be having a hard enough time with this his first christmas without her, nevermind this as well! xxx
