So i started Weaning Adam at 5 months, hv agreed that because he is a big boy.. that it was the right time to start

so he will have 3 jars aday... plus 4 bottles

now iv been trying him with finger foods, and he just hates it... im making stuff from fresh and blending it, but he just gags on it...

i really want to start getting him off the jars. but everytime he gags i just panic! x

Whats the reason you want to get him off jars? "Real" food might be a bit much at 6 months especially as he has been on jars. There a lot of taste in real food compared to jars.

I would start him off on bland foods such as mash and porridge etc the add a different taste every couple of days xxx

like mara said the real food is very strong tasting compared to jars (Which all really taste the same!!)
maybe the food your making isn't runny or smooth enough?

have you tried mixing something blandish like sweet potato and carrot say, in with some of his jar? at least then you know he's getting something you've cooked.

then you can increase the amount you cook vs the jar and hope that works?

Yes i tried that jade, and it seems to be working

only reason i say that about the jars is he eats it so quick...makes me wonder if he is even getting full from it x

I would suggest things like butternut squash and sweet potato but really thinned down with milk or water to try to get it to the jar consistency.
Like others said try then mixing that with the jars, he'll get used to the taste and they will make the jar food thicker so he'll get used to the consistancy as well.

It's a stressfull time but i promice you it doesn't last for ever!

have you tried offering him a little pudding after?
how much milk does he take?

If he's having well over 18-21oz then Id say offer him more food.

Weaning was the hardest thing I found to get right it's so worrying there's so much advice thats all contradicting out there!

but like Claire said it diesn't last for ever! x

I shouldn't worry to much, My Lo even now as 3 bottles a day plus 3 meals, plus snacks etc, remember his tummy is only small and will only hold a small amount of food no matter whether its your food or Jarred food,
You Lo sounds alot like how Beth used to be, She hated anything sweet, even now she wont drink any kind of juice or pop, will eat bits of chocolate and fruit was a no go, it was to sweet, she had a very savory tooth, The gagging i also got, but that was from the different texture more so than what she was eating, she would gag but yet still open her mouth for another spoonful,
At my Los age they recommend 21oz of milk on top of 3 meals, and i have just got her down to a min of 18oz with some days back upto 21oz,
The first thing i gave Beth was mash with gravy and she loved it, the texture is quiet smooth which seemed to help, she also loved brocolli and cauliflower mixed with cheese sauce, that too can be mixed to virtually nothing, I think the first finger food Beth had was a suck on a piece of beef, and there as been no going back since,
Although she as no intrest in toast or sandwiches even now x
