| Hiya Sophia seems to be teething, being more moody and off her food some daysand rubbing her bottom jaw and has really red gums. The thing is though the last three times i have brushed her teeth, it has made aher gums bleed a LOT! Is this related to the teething or should i book an appointment with the dentist? Her gums seem particularly swollen above her two established top front teeth. Thanks for your help in advance, Mandy xx |

| Izzys have never bled and she now has 16 teeth
I would maybe give the dentist a call especially as the gum is swollen above teeth that are already through |

| thanks ladies, IT seems to be all cleared up now, with a vigouraous cleaning routine and plenty of fluids. But now her daddy has something similar. Looked it up and I think it is Gingivostomatitis, which is a herpes simplex viral infection. All the symptoms sound right: more irratable, off food, raised temp, drooling more, sore bleeding gums, ulcers/spots on tongue. I had really sore lips so possiblt have passed on bacteriia from my lips to her and she got the thing i said above. Dave has it now and he has ulcers in his mouth and on his tongue and his appetitite gone down. Sophia had been putting her fingers in his mouth at meal times. It all fits... The bad news is there is not a lot of treatment for it apart form good oral hygiene and plenty of fluids and it can come back, but the good news is that it resolves itsellf in 7-12 days. Apparently very common in children 1-4 years old. http://www.drugs.com/cg/primary-herpetic-gingivostomatitis-in-children.html Thanks again, MAndy xx |
