Had me physio appt today which was actually v interesting from a professional point of view as well as trying to sort out my joint pain pmsl
Anyways she asked a load of questions about symptoms and what aggravates or eases the pain and laughed because she was automatically doing what a lot of medical types do. Most docs, nurses, physios etc document things in medical terms but ask questions in what is insultingly called layspeak. Thats not to say non medical people are in any way incapable but most of the medical terms are not so well known so you tend to automatically translate as you ask then write in medicalese.
However its quicker to ask in medical terms. Eg for back pain you will ask do you have pins and needles, do you have bowel and bladder symptoms, do you have numbeness then that whole long set of questions gets condensed if there are no problems into the simple written sentence-no neurology. So she was automatically asking in layspeak but after a question or two laughed and reverted to medical speak as i was answering her the same way without thinking about it. Does make for a much quicker chat lol
Then was made to take me keks off-bloody physios, i hate seeing em for this exact reason i always end up half in the buff. She ade me stand front, side and rear on then walk and lean forward and bend my legs and alsorts
Anyhoo she said i actually have a greater range of flexibility than most non pregnant people due to my previous martial arts but i also have whats called lumbar lordosis or sway back which means the curve at the base of my spine is deeper than a lot of peoples and i also have hypermobile joints. Ive been told this with y knees before now but apparently most of my joints are affected though not as severely as y knees. It means y joints have a greater range of motion than most peoples but can get stressed without meaning to because at rest i can stand or sit in such a way they flex too far. For example if i dont think about putting a slight bend in my knees when i stand they actually slant slightly backwards. She said between the back and the joints shes not surprised i have pain.
Seems i probably have spd but also definately have sciatica which is making it all feel worse as i get pain in y back, sides, hips, groin and legs-esp left and when im standing im favouring my right leg to compensate or leaning to copensate which is making the pain in my sides and back worse. If it wasnt for the sciatica the spd would probably be manageable with just some stretching exercises. Ive had sciatica on and off for years anyway from my job.
Shes given me some exercises to do and advice on how to stand so my back, legs and hips dont get such stress placed on the joints through hyper flexion but its going to take time to retrain my body so it becomes habit as ive had to learn to do with my knees so in meantie i have to be aware of how im standing and try to consciously correct myself. Shes also advised me on how to try and lie in bed though im not good with pillows under legs/bump etc as im a restless sleeper and tend to wang them across the room in temper in early hours of morning after i get tangled in them, will try again. Shes also given me a big ass tubigrip for my middle for sleeping to pull hips in and take strain off bump and a seriously sexy elastic belt thing to wear when out and about in day for same reason. Hopefully that will help the spd, unfortunately theres little can be done about sciatica except painkillers and heat/cold to ease the pain a bit. Awens unimpressed by the belt as physios given me a particularly broad one to compensate for the deeper curve in y back and i can feel she keeps prodding it lol.
Once shes born have been advised to try yoga or pilates to try and help the joints etc long term as a lot of it explains why i get low back/jointpain usually which i just brush off as part of my job so def going to look into that as well as getting back to the stretching i used to do when i did martial arts
Sorry its a bloody long one. Just found it particularly intriguing
