I'm after some advise on my personal debt.
Has anyone used a company that can help you with speaking to creditors? I have a fair amount of debt unfortunatly, but since i've been made redundant i've struggled to make the payments, I feel like i'm sinking and really need to sort it all out.

I've been told that the cccs is good but i just wondered if anyone here had used anyone that they would reccomend to help?

I need to sort this out, i've been putting it off too long now and its becoming a big stress for me!

Hun the only advice I can give is that if you can possibly face it ring your creditors yourself. It may seem like an easier less stressful option to get a 3rd party involved but TBH you may end up paying for something you could have eaily done yourself. You'll probably be asked to complete an income and expenditure sheet yourself either way. You just need to choose a time when you're feeling strong and be firm and go for it. x

the cccs or the cab are great!! Dont use any debt free direct type companies or anyone offering Iva's etc.

I declared myself bankrupt in 2008, so am here if you need any advice please just ask me.

For me it was the best thing I ever did, but I know its not for everyone!

The worst bit for me was my pride, I used to drive lovely flash cars (the main thing that got me in trouble + my ex husband leaving me in a lot of debt), but for the first year your only allowed to own a low value car etc

But I am debt free now, with a second chance, and because I cant get credit yet, it gives me time to retrain myself with money.

Please be careful who you go with creditor wise - when I met James 3 yrs ago he'd tried to get an iva but he was hmm earning too much! He ended up with a debt management co but it transpired he was giving £100 and only £50 was paid off debt rest was there fees!
I got involved and arranged directly with finance co and credit card co to pay direct but minimum.. They are always pushing for more money from us but we stand our ground and barter every time Smile
Just take loads of professional advise and be aware or what your signing up to

DO NOT pay a company to do it for you I did this and wasted loads of money, there are charities that can do it for free.

Hubby went to CAB with all his paperwork and they sorted it there and then they even printed off a budget sheet for him and rang all the companies. Hubby offered one company £40 a month as he couldn't afford the £50 they were after, after CAB spoke to them he is only paying them £19 a month so by them pushing him for the extra £10 a month they've lost out lol. They write everything down that you owe and give you a limit for household things like food (they allowed us £200 a month) and what was left they divided between companies on some kind of system that the one you owe the most to gets paid the most on a percentage, the computer tells them what that percentage is and how much maximum they can get. Also CAB can arrange for the intrest to be frozen so what you are paying off is 100% debt and none of the interest, this isn't always guaranteed but they will push for it to have the interest frozen.

Also in the budget sheet they make sure the things you have to pay (priority) get paid before they work out your percentage. Priority debts are things like Council tax, rent, water, gas and electric. They rang our gas comapny and asked if we could pay off our debt each week we top up our meter which they were happy to do, so we just put an extra £7 on the gas meter each week.

Thanks to them we are no longer in rent arrears as we know what to pay and to whom every month.

Our lives used to revolve around robbing Peter to pay Paul so some companies wouldn't get paid as other things had to be dealt with but now we know where every penny is going and any left over money each month (sometimes we don't use the full £200 allowance for food and cleaning products as things like bubble bath and washing powder can be bought in bulk and is often on offer so doesn't get bought every month) goes on a treat like a dominos pizza or a chinese for example.

Hope I've helped some huni xxxxxxx
