| I had my 12 week scan last week, and one of the midwives was talking me through my pregnancy schedule. I'm due in the middle of July, and she told me to make sure that I'd booked a date for "the operation" well before then. I wasn't sure about the process but she told me that if your first birth is a c-section, then your 2nd HAS to be a c-section too. Now, I have no problem with this as I had a pretty good experience with my first c-section, but I wondered how it works in the UK? I'll hopefully be giving birth in England, so will they just take my Japanese doctor's word that I need a c-section, or will they make me try for a natural birth? I'm confuzzled! |

| Erm that's codswallop!
If there is a medical reason as to why you have to have a c-section then yes. But if your perfectly able to give birth naturally then they won't give you a c-section |

| What exactly is a VBAC? It sounds scary - forgive me if I'm being thick, I've only ever been pregnant in Japan! I ended up having a c-section with Milo because he was measuring over his dates by about a month, so at 37 weeks he was measuring 42 weeks big, with a huge head (measured by scan, and accurate based on his measurements after his was born) whereas I have a narrow pelvis apparently, and if I went over my due date, he would be "too big" to come out, and there might be complications for him or me. She decided on an induction at 38 weeks before he got too big, but that failed (you may remember the frankly horrific process from my posts ) so I had a c-section that day. Not sure if that's a medical enough reason, I never got a chance to try naturally, so I'll never know if a natursl birth could have gone well or been a disaster. And who knows if this one will be big or small? If I say to my English doctor "My Japanese doctor insists on a section" (as she is insisting!) would they just ignore her advice, despite her being my consultant for my 1st pregnancy and half of this one?? |

| i think maybe speak to your doctor before you come over and ask her to write a letter stating her reasons why you should have one and that due to your medical history it's safer for you to have a C-Section.
It might help but depends on the mood of the doctor on the day |

| Aww thanks Kelly, that's a great idea! I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that i find a nice sympathetic doctor, or at least one whose open to letting me try naturally then open the sunroof if it's not working |

| A vbac means vaginal birth after c section mate. Bascially letting you have a crack at it before they crank open the sunroof. Id say go with the letter or when you meet your englaish doc say your japanese doc 'recommended' a section (docs are often offended by the word insist lol) and see what they say, if you wanna try naturally its worth mentioning that too as im sure as long as you arent trying to pop out godzilla again (poor milo lol) you may be ok xxx |

| I ended up with a section for the same reasons that you did but they wouldn't induce me till I was overdue so the whopper was never going to come out any way but the sunroof! I've been told there is no reason why I can't try for a vbac if I want next time but my doctor has recommended that I have a c-section, so I think basically they will support you with whatever decision you want to make xxx |

| I had a section with no 1 as he was bum first!! No 2 was a VBAC and hell but I was never really offered the choice of a section with him and no 3 was a section because I had asked for one as no 2 was so horrible! As it was Rhys was another bum first baby so had to be a sunroof jobby anyway! My birth story with him will eventually appear sometime soon once I have come to terms with things in my head!
Think it depends on area what they advise over here!
Xx

| Thanks everyone!! I'm sure I will have a great doctor who won't force me to do anything crazy, and if this little one is not a heffalump i'm willing to try a natural birth! Thanks for the reassurance! |
