we were upstairs (very top level as we have two flights of stairs) and I was in the bathroom and hannah was in her bedroom. turned my back for a minute at most and went to find hannah and the place was deadly silent. then heard a little giggle from downstairs ...she had walked all the way down the living room and was playing with the cat

I got the fright of my life I could hear my heart beating so fast in my chest!

although a small part of me a tiny tiny tiny part is quite proud of her. as it means I can trust her to walk down the stairs and dont have to be as paranoid as I normally am around stairs although will never let that happen again for a while!

I told her not to do that again and she just looked at me really strangely and said "cat....ball" so Im assuming that means I was only playing with the cat and ball mum dont panic!

Eeek I had my heart in my mouth meerly reading that, let alone living it! Thank goodness she's ok x

My dad spent hours with Aimee teaching her how to get down the stairs, so we took our stairgate off a couple of months ago.

She goes up and down all day now x

I do let her walk up and down the stairs on her own without holding my hand but I stand right behind her.

Nah, I think when we are not looking they are extra careful.

Aimee is up and down all day long and she is very careful and comes down on her front.

But, when I am with her, she tries to 'walk' down forwards, so now I normally just walk down and she makes her own way down when she is ready.

hannah actually walks not holding onto anything. I guess im just a bit worried she will loose her balance. will teach her to bump down on her bum and see how she goes with that.

Thomas is like Aimee - up and down all day. First thing I did when we moved here a year ago was teach him to come down stairs and he has been doing it alone since about 14 months. I used to watch from afar to see how he did it and Laura is right - they seem to be so much more cautious without you there. When im with him he tries to be brave and walk down properly holding the banister but he always comes down backwards when on his own.

We have taken our stair gate off, I thought it was pointless when she opened it herself and went down the stairs haha
She is great about going up and down now, Im still a bit worried about her falling but hey, babies bounce dont they

Rowan can walk down too but i still watch him and i still have my heart in my throat every time he comes down

Im in process of teaching c to come down, shes actually not keen on doing it so i reckon gates staying on a bit longer yet lol#
