| i was watching loose women this morning when they were talking about the smoking rule that looks like it will be coming in. People having to clock out when they want a fag break WHat do you think? I have worked with people who smoke and some really do take the piss they would go out for one and have a 10min break every hr or so leaving us to do more work. We dont get lil 10mins break i even got into a argument once when i needed to go toilet they said i had to wait even tho fag breaks were being aloud x But then i know some people who will jus pop out quick to have a quick puff which is different xx Whats ur views? do u think they should have to clock out when having a fag? do you think it would be fair to allow everyone to have a lil break where people can have a fag and others can do what the want for 10mins? |

| 100% agree!
In our office there were 3 people on the desk that smoked - they had around 4-5 10-15 minute smoking breaks every day and no one said a thing
If I had sat reading a book for an hour every day they would have said something!
So yes too right, clock them out, they might not take so many breaks then!
I think all emplpoyers should be forced to allow mini breask, 15 mins morning and afternoon for example - its important for computer users to get a break and those who are stood up to rest their legs! |

| Where I work every1 is entitled to a 10 min break on a morning and an afternoon as well as an hour lunch brk. Smokers go outside and the none smokers have a choice of whether they can go into the break area or just sit at their desk.
SO i dont think it really applys to me!

| Nobody in our office smokes, but I must admit, I would get a bit peed off if I didnt smoke and then somebody else was off taking fag breaks all the time while I was sat working. x |

| I agree that the smokers should clock out when they go for their fag breaks but I also think that the non smokers should clock out when they have a little break or sit down etc. Don't get me wrong there are some smokers that really take the piss, but I have come across many non smokers that have as well. My mum is in a management job and she's a smoker, the way she does it is she's aloud 1hr for her lunch, she takes half hour at lunch (which she's still answering calls etc) and the rest of the half hour she spreads through the day nipping outside for a fag. So all in all she's taken her hour. Every where i've worked, they are only able to go for a fag if they are on a designated break I don't think its fair that smoker seem to think they are entitled to 'nip' out for a fag, why?? its their addiction, why should others suffer? or cover for them? Unless the non smokers take 5mins too |

| Where I used to work the smokers got 15 mins less for lunch if they wanted to have cigarette breaks during the day, It worked really well. I agree that smokers and non smokers should have the same rules with regards to breaks |

| I absolutely agree that they should clock out if they are taking extra breaks that other non smokers don't get. I am however a complete smoking nazi, I despise everything associated with smoking and think it should be completely banned full stop - but that's just me. I can smell cigarette smoke a mile off and it upsets me imensley to see my babies in the arms of somebody who has smoked recently and I could cry when I come home from the inlaws and can smell minging smoke on my beautiful innocent children. This new rule can only be a good thing - if it discourages just one more person from lighting up then it gets my vote! I don't care who gets what breaks and when, I've worked with smokers and if they want to go outside and kill themselves I couldn't care less - I am happy in my smoke free office getting on with my work tbh. So my main reason for backing this proposal is that it will potentially save a few more lives and thats gotta be good xx |

| totally agree, we dont get a break as we only do 3.5hours but some still go out for a fag and spend at least half hour most times and it really pees me off. if i was to sit for half an hour with a cuppa i bet they wouldnt be best pleased x |

| Since my work doesn't involve clocking on and off it wouldn't work but smokers do take the piss. In my previous job I used to balance it out by hiding in the ladies for 10 minutes at a time and calculating how much I was getting paid for going for a wee. |

| Where i work we have introduced a 10 min am and pm break for anyone who wants it for this very reason. There were some people who would take 5/6 fag breaks per day and their colleagues were understnadably peed off! So now the rule is one morning break and one afternoon break (and lunch of course) and that is it. |

| It obviously ins't fair to non smokers and I think it's faire to dock their wages because tbh what are you actually going to do with a ten min break, byt the time youve got up and made a cuppa itt'l be time to go back to work! |

| I used to smoke and would take my smoking breaks off of my lunch, the non smokers on my team did used to moan at me but everyone is entitled to a break the non smokers just didn't choose to have theirs and i took my breaks off my lunch too But I do think if you have to clock in and out of work then you should clock in and out during fag breaks too! everyone should be treated equally! |

| I agree! When I used to smoke regular we could go for a fag break whenever we wanted but that soon stopped when the boss found out that people were buying the superking ones so that their PAID breaks were twice as long as the others! |

| as a manager, if my staff wanted a fag break in their shift i would expect them to start 5 mins early or stay 5 mins after.
there was not a chance in hell that i would have allowed smokers to just have an extra break, its not on! |

| Where I used to work people often nipped out for a fag and took ages....but if you didn't smoke you weren't allowed to pop out etc!! So every now and again I would 'pop out for a fag' (I dont smoke) and I would go stand outside with the smokers.....cos thats often where the best gossip was!!!! xx |

| where i work, the smokers get extra breaks and the non smokers dont, i have been controversial and brought this up at staff meetings, but im outnumbered by the smokers! im told i could have a break but as im generally the nurse in charge, and usually the only one left behind, if i went aswell who would be left behind? i think they should bring the rule in definately! |

| whe i used to smoke and was working i only had a 30 mins lunch break, i used to split it so i had a 5 min ciggie in the am and 20 min lunch and a 5 min ciggie in the pm, i chose to do this as i didnt think it was fair to have a ciggie break and not take it out of my lunch considering there were alot of non smokers, so i agree they should clock in and out for breaks, this one girl i worked with used to go for a fag in the am and sometimes be nearly an hour! she had an hour lunch break that she would take and always be late back from lunch as she would have a ciggie right at the end of her lunch and do the sma ein the pm so she was having over 3 hours of breaks!!!! really peed me off as management really didnt give a monkeys!!! x |

| i don't think anyone should get extra breaks for anything - but that includes texting, sitting on your arse having a cup of tea, checking your personal emails (banda! ) or any other thing people get up to at work - i'm all for people clocking out for cigarette breaks but i think anyone is guilty of skiving here and there and maybe they should clock out too! |

| oooh Mari, I'm glad you're not my boss! I'm guilty of all of the above mentioned skives apart from smoking which I packed in when I conceived Ellie. (when I did smoke I spent more time round the back of the canteen smoking than I did at my desk)! i'll also put my hand up to booking hols, shopping (including Tesco big shop)! I do struggle with Banda but only because it looks so obviously not work (plee to Lisa to make it look like an excel spreadsheet)! I'm in work now - I've already paid a bill and booked a hol and answered personal emails xxxxx |

| I am guilty of doing all sorts of things when I should be working but then my job doesn't go away when it hits 5pm. I am currently working from home, checking Banda and making flash cards but if my phone rings at 8pm tonight I will answer it or if I need to do work on the weekend I do and it is very rare that I don't answer emails when I am on holiday. |

| wouldnt affect us because we are forced to take an hour unpaid break, even though we dont actually get an hour break, so i make the effort to sit on my ass for ten minutes here or there just to make sure i get some time so i guess smoking would count for their breaks x |
