A significant change to the DVLA procedure has been made in relation to the surrendering of driving licences for endorsements.

Who does this apply to?

The procedure applies to all drivers who receive points from the Court or fixed penalty offices for offences that do not result in disqualification.
Such drivers are required to surrender their current valid driving licence to the DVLA for the endorsements to be added.

The previous 12 month time period is now reduced to 28 days. If the licence is not surrendered within 28 days the licence is revoked and drivers are required to apply to renew the licence.
Drivers will continue to receive a warning letter from the DVLA though this letter will now state the time within which to submit the licence is 28 days.

Application for licence renewal is done by way of DVLA Form D1. There is no fee for such an application though it will take approximately three weeks to process. During this period of time when the application is being processed, the original licence will remain revoked and the driver will not be permitted to drive.

my licence is clean i had points

my license is clean, i have never been caught

I had 3 points and just followed the instructions it gave me regarding when to send my licence, so I assume that they will also tell people about this change when they get the letter about their points - its unfair if they aren't!

Mine is clean now - as far as the points have expired, but I dont know when I can get them actually removed from my paper copy
