Can i pick your brains please? _
PostSubject: Can i pick your brains please?   Can i pick your brains please? EmptyFri Feb 04, 2011 2:21 am

I've got a research project coming up at college and i have no idea what subject to research. I want something really interesting, and preferably that hasn't been done before so when my tutor reads it it will be all new and more interesting for her to read, which could get me a better mark.

It can be anything to do with midwifery, pregnancy or birth.

So far i've come up with:
Male midwives
Vbac vs c-section
home vs hospital births
Link between pain relief and assisted delivery

Has anyone experienced anything that would be interesting to research or can even just think of anything?

I was wondering whether there was any link between Pethidine/diamorphine and longer delivery's (10cm to baby born) Or assisted deliveries? There probably isn't but I just wondered whether it had been looked into. It took me 2.5 hrs pushing to get Amelia out and I'd had a half dose of diamorphine 2 hrs prior to pushing

i think the male midwife idea is good.

erm what about:

the affects emotionally on mothers who have to have a c-section thats not through choice
copying with un-supportive family, the affects on the mother

erm...

-the role of a birth partner; differences between mums vs partners being there/length of birth/less likely to request epidural/more relaxed/easier for midwife

-homebirths; success rate/is it available to all/offered

-palpating/measuring size of baby comared to actual birth weight

-natural/herbal/homeopathic ways to induce labour -truth or myth?

-prejudices in midwifery eg lesbian couples, teens giving baby up for adoption at birth, surogates and parents- how is their birthplan tailored (skin to skin etc), who attends appointments...

I think male midwives is a good one... but would be really interested to know if theres a link between pain relief and making it harder/slower to deliver.

Ohh thanks girls!

I think i'm gonna go for either male midwives, as i had one check me over when i had a bleed and thought he was fab so would be interesting to see what other mums thought. Or the link between pain relief and more difficult labours/assisted deliveries. I'll probably see which has most information already about as we've got to do both primary and secondary research Smile

As soon as i've decided i'll be asking you all to fill in a questionairre Very Happy As

My sister has a male midwife and I am sure she would be happy to talk to you.

She had the same one for my niece and he is her mw for number 2.

I have a couple of friends who are mws and support for mws I could ask them if you would like to find out the views from the female mws.
