Luke's brought up moving in together after a while when he moves back up here & wants to buy his house off his Dad. I said i'd never move into my partners home, as it'd be their home, not mine - he's lived there his whole life. Thing is, he'll be buying that house really cheap and it is a big house, loads of rooms and a big garden - everything i'd want really. And definitly better than any other house we'd get on our budget. So.. Have any of you moved into their house? Did you manage to make it feel like your home and not just theirs? Or did it always feel like just their house to you?

I havent, but I am sure that if you both decorate it how you want it then it will work out great. My OH wants us to buy his parents house, which was also his childhood home. We are not going to do it any time soon, but I have said that if we did, I am gutting it and starting again. He totally understands this, and I am sure your OH would understand too. x

No i havent as I would think it was their house, But this does sound like a great opprtunity to get a nice house that you like. Would he be putting your name on the mortgage? x

I dont know if it matters, but I am not on the mortgage for our house. We had only been together 6 months when we got our house, and I refused to go on it (got stung badly once before). I am still not on it, because personally I dont see that it matters now that we are married and have babies. x

He has said i can decorate it how i like, and i can use one of the rooms as a dressing room which is maybe why i have decided to consider it I won't be on the mortgage initially as he'll be paying it as i'll be a student for the next 3 years minimum so wouldn't really be able to contribute!

i moved into my OH's flat 3 years ago and it still feels like i live in his flat. he bought it with his ex and they decorated it. all i've done is repainted the bedroom, but's that's cos i've been wanting to move since i got here.... all my stuff is still in boxes!! i thinjk it's different if you're both moving in at the same time though, you can decorate and what not together

I have and it still feels like his house even though we're changed rooms around and renovated it. I still don't feel 100% comfortable in it. I want to move. x

I'm just not sure what the rules are at the moment for common law etc. I just want to be sure that a bloke couldn't kick you out if the relationship failed (due to him being a dick). |

The house we live in was my house before i met Dan and he is not on the mortgage mainly because he still has a flat that he rents out and we couldnt be bothered faffing about. I think at first he felt like it was my house as it had all my stuff in etc but over time we have decorated and bought a lot of stuff together and he says he definitely feelsl ike it is both of ours now. I reckon if you are moving in at the same time and decorating etc it will be fine. xx

I live in a house owned by my other half's mum.. Sometimes it feels weird but she is really laid back and we are allowed to do what we want so she doesn't tread on our toes, we do pay rent and my other half plans to buy it off of her in a few years. The thing is it's the perfect home to bring my son up into so when I get worried that I don't own it I just remind myself that it's all for him and one day it will be ours. It doesn't bother me that my oh will own it either as I will contribute to our family when I have finished my degree because we are working towards a future together xx
