PostSubject: Re: Wine question   Wine question EmptyFri Feb 18, 2011 3:33 am

I like to think I'm a bit of an expert!

Take the cork out, have a swig, and see what you think. That's only way I know how to test it lol

As long as it's not been opened and has been stored right (ie not it bright sunlight) it should be fine. If I open a bottle I usually chuck it after a week, but on a few occasions I've served wine that's been open for over 3 weeks with no lid on to my very dear sil. I save it purposly for her dreaded visits. As far as I'm aware it's never made her ill so I'll just have leave it a wee bit longer in future.

Enjoy your wine Hun

If its been opened white is only at its best for up to 3 days, red maybe a couple of days longer. The easiest way is to have a little taste, if its a bit stale, don't drink it x

I agree if it is unopened you can keep it for as long as you want, make sure the cork is kept moist because as it dries it shrinks (we have a wine holder and the wine is slightly tipped forwards to keep the cork moist) You can buy vintage wines from ions ago and no-ones died from drinking them. I have a few nice bottles from the early 2000's that are still very tasty. Red tastes alot nicer if it is left to mature, you can drink it young but I prefer mine to have a thick layer of dust on the bottle. xxxxxx

Yep, if it is unopened, then you can keep it forever.

If you ever have champagne and intend to keep it and let it age, then you need to lay it on its side, or it will go flat.

It does depend on the wine though.

Some wines improve with age and others are best drunk when they are within a few years old.

I am guessing it is not seriously old so it should be fine.
If it tastes like vinegar it is bad. Laughing
