| Poor Caitlin had me up all last night & I was convinced she was teething as had bad nappy and dribble rash past cpl days. Today it got 10x worse and she came out in spots on hands and rash on feet and slightly on torso. Took her to dr's thinking chicken pox or possibly hand foot and mouth as donzy suggested. Dr not convincd its pox as not all the spots are blistered, just those around mouth and bum and odd cpl on hand. Think she has a general virus that has caused a skin/excema type reaction round her mouth and a fungal infection down below. The other rash all over her looks atm to be common to that of any virus. Got a viral cream for her mouth and a thrush cream for her bits. Have to monitor rash for 24hrs to make sure it doesnt end up being pox. Dr a bit worried that her mouth will worsen quite quickly & she will end up refusing food/drink, if thats the case iv to go back on sat and get oral meds for mouth infection and if that doesnt work she may need to be treated in hozzy to ensure she gets fluid (thats a big IF but as hopefully the cream works!!!) Here's a few pics - they on my fb (my mum will go mad at that but wanted peoples opinion)

| Thanx everyone, I do feel like a bad mummy moaning about her keeping me up teething and then found her like that this morning! Lisa a few people have suggested that to me, including donzy and another friend who saw my pics on fb who's son had it. It shouldnt be foot and mouth as I cant see spots on her palm or soles which seems key in the diagnosis of it. That symptom list above though is the first to make me think about it again though as it mentions bum/genitals. I dont know what the heck it is. My cousin is a bit worried the dr didnt know what she was talking about as the diagnosis is so vague, plus having one cream for a viral infection and another for a fungal infection when they are both supposed to linked to same unknown illness. Im confused lol. Im just gona have to roll with it, watch her temp and pray that she seriously starts drinking better tomorrow. Caitlin drinks so little anyway, even refused her btl tonight it prob wouldnt take long for her to dehydrate. She did eat 3 chicken nuggets and one piece of carrot for tea so she isnt totally off her food, aswell as hlf a fruit shoot. In total today id say she has had about 10-12 oz of fluid, but she usually maybe only has 20oz including milk on a good day. |

| Yeh its a bit pants, but even if it is foot and mouth its similar treatment to other virus rashes etc, so them saying what it i wouldn't have helped much more than what you will be doing anyway
Although NHS says 'Several different viruses can cause sores and ulcers in the mouth. However, a GP will normally be able to distinguish hand, foot and mouth disease from other viral infections by: The age of the affected person. Hand, foot and mouth disease is most common in children under the age of 10. The pattern of symptoms. Symptoms begin with fever and a sore throat; spots then develop in your mouth and later on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet. The appearance of sores. The sores are smaller than chickenpox sores. A throat swab or stool sample may be taken and sent to a laboratory to determine which enterovirus has caused hand, foot and mouth disease. The result usually takes a few days.'
BUT if they have never seen it before ....? |

| It was a young female locum dr. She did hmm a bit and I had to say twice about getting her bum looked at & she said ok she may aswell - good job I did as she admitted that sudocrem/bepanthem etc wouldnt do anything for it. I was nearly tempted to ask her to get another opinion but didnt want to look cheeky. |

| You should have! I refuse to see locums cos they are absolutely rubbish most of the time, have never seen one that actually helped! |

| TBH they won't/can't do anything for viral rashes...they will just keep you waiting and then tell you its a rash ...they cant really do anything to make it go away quicker than it will naturally. |

| Went to out of hrs doc this morning. Her face, bum/bits & hands are way worse than the pics above so was getting worried about her. On thur night she slept 430am -730am so was clearly in alot of pain. Her hands are covered in red lumpy blisters, and her chin is one big weeping mess. Anyway yup he diagnosed hand foot & mouth disease! Her chin has got infected with her poking at it and she also has blisters in her mouth . Have antibiotics, bonjella, calpol and cream to give her. She hates the antibiotics and its a curse because its putting her off taking calpol which she usually loves. Have to stop using the fungal cream on her butt as its not thrush at all but viral lesions. Really hope these anti-b's work and my pretty happy baby comes back & replaces this grumpy scabby mess of a toddler Iv had for the last cpl days. |
