we've just come on holiday back to Jersey staying in my mums house over here with my sister and my Nan. Now pretty much as soon as we got here Tyler figured out how to scream... great.

we've been here two weeks now and he just keeps eating less and less and tantrumming more and more. We took him to reservoir today to feed the ducks and have a walk.. he didn't want to walk so we went to the beach... he wanted to walk to the sea and kept throwing himself on the floor screaming when we tried to steer hima different way. so we took him home.

lunch time gave him an egg mayo sandwich, he didnt want any of it so offered him some of a jar - he reufsed it so he then ate one frube, half a pear some raisins erm... thats about it. tried to give him a snack at 3 wouldn't have anything,
he just sits there and screams

He is getting his canines through (they have broken the skin) but could this be why he's not eating or is he just being a pain in the bum?

How should I handle this? I try to ignore him or take him away from the situation (i.e taking him home from the beach) but he's hitting and scratching and pinching screaming till he's nearly sick its just horrible Sad

mmm maybe those teeth are giving him grief Sad I would ignore any tantrums or distract him somehow. Cerys does go off her food now and again too, I think alot of them do, maybe its their way of making a stand and showing that they mean business Rolling Eyes Laughing It will pass honestly. The ignoring mostly works with Cerys, if I give her any attention when she's having a wobbly she does it more xx

im sorry i cant offer much advice, maybe the reason for not eating alot is like you say his teeth sounds like you are doing all you can and ignoring his bad behaviour. its horrible to see them get so worked up and i think sometimes kids act out in frustration as the can find it difficult to express themselves so do it by doing horrible things (hitting etc) he is still young and prob doesnt understand quite yet what he is doing is wrong, sorry im not much help but didnt want to read and run big hugs and i hope he settles down for you soon xxxxxxx

well he ate dinner... I think cos we didn't offer him lots of other foods he was so hungry he ate. it was something he liked a few days ago so I knew that if he didn't eat it it was him playing up.

as for the tantrums its easy to ignore them when we're at home but when we're out I feel like a terrible person if I stand there and watch him screaming on the floor and it's not as if I can walk away... I suppose it's something I just have to try my best to ignore until he can understand a bit...

I read that they can tantrum through frustration before they reach a big milestone and he is definately nearly talking so hopefully it will get better once he can communicate...

really am not looking forward to travelling back hom on Tuesday (5 hour flight) eeeeek

I have a belief that for children any attention is good attention and if you give attention to a behaviour they will do it more so ignoring bad behaviour is best.

I would guess that it is a combination of horrid teeth and being unsettled away from home. If your family are typical they are probably in his face more than he gets at home, fussing him, doing things for him and generally overwheming him and that could well be the problem if it has only really started while you are at your mums.

Not eating could be Tyler's way of maintaining some control over his life.

If Wil is given too much unwanted attention he tends to kick off because he is very independent and does things himself and grandparents etc try to do things for him (taking his coat off, wiping his nose, feeding him etc)

Maybe it will settle down when you get home.

Gill I think you were right it was mainly being away that caused most of the problems - the extra attention and the disruption.l We haven't had tantrums since we've back... we still get the pinching and biting though but that's been going on since before we were away :/
think it all overwhelmed him a bit tbh.
