| just a strange one, but today we went ot the farm with mil and fil, looking at all the cute little animals(oliver learned a new word 'kicken'(chicken )anyhow whilst looking at the cows and their new calfs fil shouted leo over and said 'oh lets look where your burgers comefrom' showing him a sign about different parts of the cows used for what meat...anyhow, i know its a part of life they need to know, but i think after looking at all the cute little cow's i personally wouldnt have showed him that sign...but then got me thinking is it a good thing to show them or not, maybe after seeing that he would decide to be veggie, and its his right to know where his meat comes from...but is it too graphic for kids...discuss??? x |

| I wouldn't do it in that setting because it is unnecessary and cows have feelings too. If Wil asked about where the meat came from though I would explain it to him. I work for an animal feed company and although I love eating meat I hate it when people at work talk about the animals in terms of them as food. The poor chickens only live for about 8 weeks. |

| We were eating chicken (her favourite) a while back and Lottie said 'I like chicken' then she looked at me and said 'It's not a real chicken is it Mummy?' I must admit I looked at her and told her it wasn't.....I know she will need to learn one day, but I want to keep her innocent for a little bit longer. xx |

| My daughter knows where her food comes from and has done for years.
I have also explained to her that the chickens we see in the farm are the egg chickens and not the eating chickens.
She knows that some animals are bred to provide food for us to eat and have done for year but MJ has a very mature head on her shoulders so I know she can handle the truth, she knows all about the circle of life, death and other things including an edited version of the birds and the bees. The Cows/Pigs/Chickens/Geese/Sheep etc.. eat the grass, we eat the cows etc... and when we die we become the grass which the cows etc... eat so it is all a circle (think Lion King lol)
When we went on holiday last year we stayed in a Yurt on a working Farm and that was so good for her to see how the animals live, we ate sausages from the farm down the road, eggs (which MJ helped to collect), chicken and other yummy organic goodies and she understood that these things came from the farm we stayed on and the meat came from the other farm just down the way. xxxxxxxx |
