my first time in this section Very Happy

ava has started throwing a hissy fit everytime i put her in a highchair, she is hysterical and will not eat , she does it in restaurants too and i end up eating one handed with her on my knee. I've tried leaving her there but she does not calm down and in public its really embarassing, any advice?

What is she like in a normal chair with a portable booster maybe?

I know when Oliver hit 12/18mth old he got so fussy with his mealtimes that I had to alternate where he ate from his own little table and chair, sat at the table on a booster or in his highchair.
Now when I want him to eat at the table he demands his highchair Mad

My friends LO gets like this when he's over tiered. We went out the other week and he was proppa kicking off in the restaurant cos he didn't want to sit in the highchair and wanted to sit on his mam's knee. In the end (after a good 20mins of him going red in the face) she got him out of the highchair and he ate his dinner in peace Rolling Eyes Do you think tieredness could be a factor?

Kids who'd have 'em?? Laughing

thanks zee, ive paid close attention over the past few days and i think it may be related to tiredness, we went for lunch in a restaurant today and she sat happily for an hour but she'd had a long nap before we went.

Is she at the 'put a spoon near me and I will scream and put you off kids for life' stage yet?

Aimee went through this and I know Debs had it with Thomas and is having it with Hannah. I recall it being around Ava's age. Aimee lived off finger food for about 3 months until she got over her spoon phobia x

Ive been through every stage like this with Isla.....

Refusing food, refusing foods, refusing chairs, kicking off............and over time realised that the more I battled her the worse she became.

So Ive took my foot off the throttle with her eating now, and we just wing it.

She has improved so much, and is now back in her highchair eating fantastically. Dont worry if you have to do finger food, or let her do it herself, or even for her to go hungry.

We had a spell where Isla refused pretty much everything, and after weeks of me trying to coax and even force..... just couldnt do it anymore. It sounds awful but when I stopped forcing the issue, she obviously got hungry, so when she was offered food she took it quickly.

Id say if youre going out then make sure shes had a sleep, and keep her on the hungrier side of normal. we did this, and she was so much better, and even tried other foods then too.

At home, try other 'eating places', and if that doesnt work then let her go loose with finger food, but try not to let her wind you up if she doesnt eat it.
