| When did your baby start to feed themself with a spoon. Jamie doesn't even seem to try. Admittedly he didn't start eating until he was 6 months and because his doing blw his had mainly finger food but thought he might be starting to now. If I give him a spoon he'll put it straight in his mouth but if it has food on he'll take the food off with his fingers first |

| Imogen did it quite early i think- about Jamie's age but i know her cousin and other children her age didn't do it still a bit later as i remember getting comments about Immi being young to do it.
I wouldn't worry I don't think they really get the hang of feeding themselves properly till over 1. We have a problem of Imogen going back to eating with fingers atm |

| Hi Hun, soon as Noah started eating (6 months) i gave him a spoon and then on his been using it. Prob about from 9 months he was feeding himself, then about 10 months were i have left him to eat by himself.

| Caelyn was over 1 and even now will use her fingers for preference, she can do it but why bother when shes got hands. Im not fussed, she will do it when she feels like it. As long as you are eating with him he will get it eventually chick |

| Lise Izzy is the same, she can use a knife, fork and spoon perfectly but I would say if she can eat it with her fingers then 9/10 times she wont pick up the cutlery! |

| Cool thanks. Won't worry about it then. To be fair with the blw he doesn't really get to see it in the way they do if they have purees |

| Yup. And even now she gets the odd day where she still likes me to do it for her with really sloppy stuff like think yoghurt, weetabix or soup. Again Im not too worried she just likes to have the odd babyish moment and feel like Mummys looking after her so I indulge it. I may draw the line once shes 22... Liberty if hes putting the spoon in his mouth hes heading in right direction. I mix wean Awen shes 90% BLW but has the odd puree and if i load her spoon she puts it in...and in.,...and in, til shes gagging usually but shes got the vague concept but i fully expect her to take ages to properly do it or even load it herself. Dont worry overmuch, you are a BLWer the emphasis is fun remember |

| elijah started quite early about 7 or 8 months because he would either refuse to eat or knock the spoon out of our hands, we started giving him one to hold while we fed him with another one since about 10 months he has always had his own spoon/fork/knife on his tray in his highchair, and usually prefers to use a fork/spoon combo unless a) he's really hungry, in which case he will pick whatever it is up, b) its something like peas which he can't balance or c) its yogurt, which he thinks is face cream/hair gel i think it depends on lo's nature, elijah just wants to do everything himself and won't let me feed him now, but will ask for help if he wants it we always eat with him at the table and tbh let him do what he wants so mealtimes are very messy and often quite long but fun |
