| Its because I think my laptop is about to go to heaven Its only about 18mths old but I was a bit silly and ran it off charger constantly and a cpl months ago the battery stopped holding charge. Could cope with that. Now tonight the fan has stopped working and it keeps overheating and freezing.I can still use it but am terrified Im gona set myself alight in a min. Grr all my pics are on here so I better get them to disc memory stick sharpish. Wondering if it worth repairing? I checked and to replace the battery was gonna be close to £100 anyway, now plus the fan. I think it cost me £350 in Nov 09, its a compaq and I love it because it has a 5 in 1 card reader and loading pics from my camera was so easy. Im skint atm but pondering whether its worth getting into CC debt again for a laptop... how could I cope with no internet I can browse on my mob but posting is difficult and it takes an age to navigate about cos my screen so small. How much are decent enough laptops? Not keen on netbooks as like a disc drive. |

| just a thought, find someone with knowledge of comps to take it apart for you and give it a damn good clean, that might help the fan work again and stop it from overheating. if not then it may have to go on the scrap heap XX |

| You can get something pretty good these days for £300
Thing is I find you can spend money repairing one thing, and then something else fucks up and before you know it you have spent what the thing cost in the first place!
I'd get it looked at, but personally if the repairs are gunna cost £150 or more I'd bin it! |

| Back on for a bit.. had to let it cool there! Gona try hoovering it out 2moro. I thought if a fan went that was it so thanx for those tips kat & Michelle! Diane you may get a pm over the weekend if it doesnt work, our fanta date could be sooner than we thought lol! Agree Lisa about cost of repair vs replacing. Id already thought thank feck I didnt replace the battery cos Id be gutted if I spent £100 last month only to find out this month that I need to spend another £100. If I do end up buying another I'l need to find my CC and activate it. I havent used it since I was pg... this counts as an emergency but right lol?! Ps Mara - its way more likely that I would be burying Stuart under the patio! |

| hay snoops not ideal but if you get it from currys they often do a years interest free so you dont pay anything for a year, we got ours on that, it was £350 for a fairly good spec and its got the card reader built in, we just put away £30 a month and had it paid off before the year came up. sometimes its better then cred cards, unless ya cred card is interest free too then it wont make much diff lol x |

| We had this problem last year. My brother in law works in pc world and i asked him and he said it just isn't worth repairing laptops especially if it's the battery thats gone. We got a new one for £300 and got a deal in store where we had a year to pay it off then it would have gone on credit. So we paid half a while ago and half now and we've barely noticed the money leave. I hate credit and buy now pay late but it worked for us. x |
