I rang the health visitors after christmas to talk to them about callums speech as he says nothing other then mum & dad. hes nearly 21months old so they came to see us and basically said they were concerned with callum they would be back the next week with another hv to see what they thought anyway they came spent 10mins max here and said we must have caught him at a bad day because hes fine no worries but booked another appointment which we had yesterday well when they were here they said they wanted to send him to a hearing test to rule that out as they were banging and he didnt take any notice whicxh is fair enough and they said other than that hes doing really well then half hour later they ring we want callum to see someone as we feel he is behind Shocked why couldnt they just tell me this while they were here instead of ringing Evil or Very Mad so now hes gonna be ascessed properly it just makes me feel so crap! like a failture.

Has anyone had any experience with going to see someone i think they said a pedertriain but im not sure.

yes a paediatrician is basically a children's doctor. Dont worry too much hun. You are not a failure at all. It is prob something simple like "glue ear" or wax deep inside. That apparently makes their hearing poor. Because they cant quite hear certain sounds or letters when you talk to them, they cant pick up words properly. google glue ear, see what it says. HV's are crap anyway xx

grr to your hv, they could have worded it better!

Generally in terms of speaking issues, i think most pediatritions don't really worry until the child is over 2 years old. They tend to say that before 2 years old, if your child makes good eye contact when you talk, babbles, can understand what you're saying, like to bring you things or do what you ask then that's fine. (obviously I'm not an expert though! Smile but I hear that a lot.) They might just be worried about his hearing and want to do some tests there, like Minimeg said, straightforward to fix Smile

Milo only has a few words, most of those related to food Rolling Eyes I've noticed he's picked up a few more in the last week or so, but he definitely doesn't talk anywhere near as much as some other Panda's babies do!

Fingers crossed that all will go well for you, and you definitely shouldn't feel like a failure! hugz

Why is it that so many HVs just end up making you feel worse. Try not to worry hun, when i was that age i had had a few ear infections that affected my hearing and apparently i just used to sit in the corner and play on my own cause i could hear anyone. After some gromits i was fine and started talking much more. Hopefully you'll get more of an idea after you've seen the dr.

I wouldn't worry too much though, Imogen doesn't say a lot either and her hearing is fine.

xx

arrrgh bloody hv's Mad
dont worry too much hun, as minimeg said it could be something as simple as glue ear, i mean if he is saying mum and dad it cant be anything too serious or where would he learn that? glue ear usually cleares itself too, leo had it after a virus and cleared itself after the second appt with the pediatrician, the next step would have been gromits
im sure everything will be fine, dont let them get to you hun xx
