Ok! Ellie is just about 19 months and alls she seems to do is winge! There's nothing wrong with her she just crys for anything. Only when she's getting 1:1 doing am activity she enjoys does she stop crying. I do loads with her such go to the park, soft play, a walk etc but there are times when I have to do other things such as houswork at these times she cries and cries and cries until I stop and play with her!

Is this normal?

Yer, Oliver went through the same thing and still does some days. We do something everyday which mostly involves us going somewhere like playgroups, soft play, parks or his friends, but on an afternoon if i'm trying to prep tea, wash up etc he follows me round and winges Mad

Usually I try and distract him and get him to do a 'job' for me or 'wash up' Laughing if that doesn't work I pop him in another room Rolling Eyes
Our kitchen is in the basement which in the past has been a pain but its good when he has days like that cos I can pop him in the living room and cos he can't see me in the kitchen, he winges for 2 secs and goes off and plays - only when I enter the room again does he winge Doh

In my experience - ignorance worked for us lol, I know its hard but try not to rise to it and when she stops on her own offer loads of positive attention Wink

I'm with Zee on this. Ignore the behaviour Penny and praise Ellie and give her attention when she stops whinging and plays nicely by herself. She will soon stop when whinging doesn't get mummy's attention. It is hard to do at first but you will know you are doing it for her benefit as much as your own.

I tend to try and get Wil involved if I am doing something too, not always possible but good if you can. OH gives him 2 bowls with veg in when he is cooking and gets Wil to 'help' by transferring the veg from one bowl to the other.

Other thoughts to throw in, could she be tired or hungry when she is like this? Wil whinges and wants picking up when he is hungry or tired.

Girls, thank you so much for replying. I feel reassured that ellie isn't the only wingey baby in the world. I really like the idea of giving ellie a job to do as I'm sure she cries just because she isn't occupied.
Thank you pandas xx

Tylers exactly the same hun he wants us to do something with him all the time... but if we come into the lounge with him he will go off and play on his own... I do ignore his whinging though and Ihave to say he doesn't whine as much for me as he does for his Dad!

Oliver's the same. He know's exactly how to wrap his dad round his little finger and does the whole wingey winey baby thing and OH instantly gives in and picks him up cos he says he feels bad if he doesn't Rolling Eyes

Aimee is a really whingy child when she isnt occupied.

I swear she is on something! She has to be doing something from the second she wakes up until when she goes to bed. She never sits down and is on the go all day - I cant keep up with her.

So trust me sweetie, you are not alone xx

hhmmm? scratch I wonder who she takes after? Shocked Laughing

Thomas went through this phase too - I think he is just coming out of it now and I put that down to the fact that his speech and understanding is now excellent, I can explain to him that I'm busy right now but will come and play in 2/5/10 minutes etc and he will go off and happily batter his sister Rolling Eyes while he waits. He likes to come back and remind me "10 minutes mummy" lol but he's so much better. Don't get me wrong we still have the over tired days where he will go into major tantrum mode but I can actually sit him down and ask him to stop crying and explain things to him and 9/10 times it helps. I reckon it is just a phase and made worse by frustration too. Problem I've got now is Thomas is just coming out of it and Hannah has taken over where he left off - she follows me constantly dragging on my trousers and whining Rolling Eyes

xx
