| OK not sure if anyone can help on this.
But every day after Rowan has a nap when he wakes up he cries. Now he will moan, cry and scream for 30 minutes up to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
I've done everything, food, drink, cuddles nappy change, his fav TV show, music, playing with him, drawing painting, a bath, taking him to the park, going for a drive, watching the buses or trains EVERYTHING.!!!
We are at a loss as to why this is happening. He wakes up grouchy at nursery to but it don't last as long as they must have better distractions.
I really don't know what to do. once he snaps out of it he's his normal self but really don't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

| Hmmm..not sure why hun. Does he just wake up cranky? Some kids after a nap just seem worse than before they went down. I hope this passes for you soon. xxx |

| Harrison does this if he only sleeps for a short while ie in the car if we wake him, I presumed it was because he was still tired. He's better if he doesn't nap but then is worn out before bed and even fell asleep the other evening downstairs. I think he's borderline needing a nap now during dY. X |

| Thing is though I stopped putting him down for a nap and come 4 pm he's asleep.
He also takes himself off to nap in his bed too.
Today he went to bad only lasted 20 mins but I napped when he did today to for reasons.
If I cut out his nap he falls asleep at 4-5 then I wake him up once he's had an hour otherwise he do tho to bed.
And we can't put bed time earlier as of the time we get back from work which is about 7pm sometimes later |

| Milo gets like this sometimes with naps and at night, but as far as I can figure out it's related to sleep cycles/how long he's been asleep. For eg, if he wakes up after 90 minutes, he's smiley and cheerful, if he wakes up after two hours he's a screaming nightmare! Like you with Rowan, nothing (apart from Lady Gaga on youtube ) calms him down or stops him screaming - he doesn't want to be held..or put down.. I think I read somewhere that toddlers have a sleep cycle of 45 mins, so 90 mins is 2 cycles. If they wake up in the middle of a cycle they could feel grumpy or tired etc, which could explain all the screaming. I also found that if I wake Milo by taking him out of bed and hugging him, playing music/peppa pig while he's still groggy, he wakes up much happier than if he wakes up on his own. I try to wake him up after 90 minutes (unless he's really tired and might go for another 45mins) otherwise he's hysterical when he wakes up. Again, like you, I don't think Milo's ready to give up his nap at all, so it might be worth just trying watching his sleep cycles and maybe waking him up at 90 minutes, and see if that fixes it. Good luck!! xx |

| Oliver does this if he's woke up too early from his nap (even if he wakes of his own accord) or he hasn't had enough sleep - he did it Tuesday when he went down at 2.30pm-4pm and again today he went down at 2.30pm-4.30. Where as if I put him down at 1.30pm til 4pm (his usual nap times) he sleeps like a dream and wakes up full of beans. Also find if he's not slept well through the day ie; his 2.5hrs, he's not as settled going to bed and wakes earlier on a morning. To sum it up lol, the better/more he sleeps through the day the better he sleeps at night I know he can usually do a days worth with out a nap but if it was 2 consecutive days he starts flagging so I know he's not ready to give them up just yet. Have you tried settling him a bit earlier for his nap? |

| We have this too. On random days Aimee will wake up from her nap and will literally scream the house down for no reason. I have tried everything from offering drinks/biscuits, cuddles, tv, and nothing works. I just have to let her cry it out. I did notice a week or two ago though, that she did it, and I put her back in bed, and she fell back to sleep, so I was wondering if she wasnt ready to wake up when she did. x |

Have you tried settling him a bit earlier for his nap? funny you say about the more sleep time. the last two days i've worn him out. and he has slept 1:30pm to 3:30-4pm and woke up fine. |

| I have this problem with Caleb too and taking away his nap is not an option as he does the same if he gets too tired its a catch 22..... i never had this with any of my girls so it was quite upsetting when it started as obviously nothing you do comforts them... my health visitor said it could be that he is having nightmares as thiss is the age when they start having them but that didnt help and doesnt help solve the problem so if anyone has the answer please share it lol |
