Can you double dose them? Jamie's got a third tooth coming through on top and is really unhappy. He had nurofen a couple of hours ago. Can he have some calpol as well now?

If you need to its safe to give calpol and nurofen at the same time or close together you dont have to leave a certain amount of time between them as they contain different drugs. All you need to do is make sure you dont exceed the 3 doses nurofen and 4 doses calpol over the course of a 24 hour period so you might find by giving them together you dont have to give anything for 4 or 5 hours then

Im imagining Mario is currently giving 'advice' that isnt strictly followed by other medical professionals and she doenst want to publicly be seen to flaunt the rules Wink

I usually do the 2hr gap thing to get more doses in if you get me.

lol snoops no the the advice i gave was how we dose at work just more tailored to Jamies age and weight Smile just didnt wanna clog up the thread or take it off topic. It genuinely is ok to give both at same time if you need to as long as you give the correct dosage over a twenty four hour period Smile

Aye its a short term dosage sort of 48-72 hours because its done by weight and the bottle always underestimates it but its usually great for breaking a stubborn fever or getting a lot of pain under control then you can drop it back down as needed but i dont like to give it out on the general forum because it is specific to each baby so wouldnt want someone else coming along thinking oh its ok to give my 8 month old that amount then cos Mrs X can give hers that Very Happy

I get you. I always thought that the btls must under estimate a bit as at 6 months - 1year there can be huge differences in weight. A woman at my BF group told us about the time her baby had a fever (possibly suspected meningitis actually) and in A&E she was horrified at the amount of calpol type medicine they gave the child. Obviously thats different as its in a controlled environment.

My mums friend is a senior nurse and she always says to take the 1st 2 doses of anti-b's together even though it doesnt say to on box (for adults I mean). Not sure how safe/good that advice is but I sometimes do it when feeling really rough.

It does seem really high when we do it in A and E i expect but the calpol will go by the bttom end of the weight range so as not to OD kids so by the bottle C can have 5mls but by her weight last time she was really ill with a temp of 40 degrees i think she ended up ith 11mls

my pediatrician always tells us to use these paracetamol suppositories when Tyler has a high fever and the amount of paracetamol in them compared to calpol is quite scary but then it last about 8 or 9 hours and normally only need to use 1 or 2 in total!
