Hair Washing _
PostSubject: Hair Washing   Hair Washing EmptyWed May 02, 2012 10:54 pm

Imogen is doing my head in with hair-washing. She always had but now she has learned some charming phrases such as "No mummy noooooo!!" and "Don't like it - Yak!!" it's getting even more difficult.

Getting the hair wet in the first place is fine, and getting the bubbles in - no problem It's rinsing the bubbles out again that's a nightmare.

She categorically refuses to lie back in the water (tried using the old spongey thing she used to lie on - no good, leaning on the sloped back end of the bath, even lying on mummy - all no joy) so that's out.

We've tried one of those cap things - great at first but now she just pulls it off and gets upset.

We've tried holding a flannel cloth over her eyes to keep the water out - absolute panic!

Very briefly we succeeded in getting her to look at something up high so the water went backwards, but she soon cottoned on to what that was all about and goes back to panic again.

Very occasionally she will allow the shower to go near her, but not for long enough to actually rinse her hair.

Oh it's horrible. I feel like such a bully! I know I was bad as a child, but the flannel on eyes trick worked for me.

What else can I try? I'm on the verge of shaving her head!!

Thanks,
Em

will she let you rinse it normally out of a jug or something so long as NO water goes in her eyes?

Tyler hates it too but say he's facing left then I can use my left hand to cup around the front of his head and shield his eyes then the right to pour the water but only pour a little bit to get a little bit of water over the head then stop pouring and run your left hand back over the head to get some of the bubbles out. You probably already have done this but my OH does it and manages to still get water in Tylers eyes but when I do it none does and he's fine, you just have to do it slowly and it takes longer than normal but maybe that would work?

Sophia fine with hair washing so not sure, but could you try her wearing goggles so none goes in her eyes but she can see the whole time?

I usually use an old shampoo bottle to decant water over her, and do it bit by bit, gradually getting further and further forward - she's alright with the back and some of the sides, it's just when you get to that tricky bit right on top, and the hairline at the forhead. A couple of times she's been very excited to have her bucket and spade in the bath (don't ask!) so the bucket was good for getting lots through at once, but it still ended up in her eyes wherever I tried to shield her.

It's so exasperating!!

Our Imogen is a nightmare so now I just dump a jug over her head and thats it. I don't warn her and then i laugh like it was a game. Sounds terrible but there's literally no other way without her going mental having a tantrum. Sometimes she screams when i've dumped the water and others shes fine.
