I wouldn't worry tbh, they are all different and talk at different stages too.

My LO only has a selection of words that he's said for a while..he always says dadda, hiya, teddy, ready and dirty. He's said these for ages, but he did go through a phase where he stopped talking altogether and just came out with this gobbldigook convo that he thought everyone understood Laughing . But now he's started talking a bit more and he seems to learn a new word every other day.

He's more than likely just processing everything at the mo, if his understanding of stuff is good, then the speech will follow in time. xxx

I've had the same worries about Imogen. I actually wrote about it on the AB june 09 mummies thread if you wana have a look. I think they all just develop at different times though so i don't think we really have anything to worry about. My friends two year old son doesn't seem to say a lot more than Imogen does. xx

Babies all seem to do some things really well and other things seem delayed.

You will probably find he has advanced more in some other area, maybe walking better/earlier, or using his hands.

Izzy was very late to crawl and walk, almost 18 months to walk! She doesn't say a huge amount of proper words but she 'talks' alot, although the last few days it has come on leaps and bounds and today she said dinosaur Shocked She also tried to count to ten with me, its du der dee drr der deese sssss seeee ddn den Laughing Laughing Laughing

She has also always been very good with her hands/fine motor skills

I have to say babies are so individual. Caelyn said her 1st word at 8 months which is really early and now has the vocabulary of a 2 year old yet only just started walking this week at 16 months and is still not really doing it that much yet

It's strange isn't it - I think we had first steps from 11months and within a fortnight he was upto 47 steps and was running around in no time!

We had a lot of gurgles and sounds from early on which he lost for a while, like the 'd' sound scratch - I think first word was baby at about 10months?

Now he can say, in context- baby, gone, da da, a range of animal noises (sheep, pig, horse, fish, cow, ha-hoo!! )and his own word for please/thank you which is 'bitta' Laughing and he says 'der' (like "there' but with a d!) a lot - which either means 'what is it' or 'there it is' or (if said more urgently!) 'i neeeeed it now!' Laughing He says ma-ma but it comes out the same as the noise for sheep - I'm not impressed Rolling Eyes Laughing

He understands SO much though - can point out animals and pictures in books and food on his plate, bring you jigsaw pieces and toys by name, follows verbal instructions like coming upstairs for nappy / go to sleep (awww, laying his head down Smile ) - giving a kiss, waving by-bye, clap etc. - knows and points to body parts (head, toes, eyes, ears, nose, mouth) and that's just a few examples!; so I have a feeling he will go 0-60 super fast like he did with walking and have a spurt of words.

I think it's less about what they do when and more about the whole picture - it's only when you stop and think you realise how much they have come on and learnt in such a short time! Amazing little things Smile x
