PostSubject: Potty training a boy?!   Potty training a boy?! EmptyThu Sep 02, 2010 12:27 am

OLiver has had a potty since he was 1yr old, we have always offered it at nappy free time but he usually plays with it of flings it across the room.

The other week he did a wee on his potty Very Happy I told my friend as I was so excited (she's currently potty training her little girl who's the same age as Oliver and she's almost 95% successful now Smile )

So we have been offering the potty as usual and I can see that he is really cottoning onto it, he comes over and you can see him straining to do a wee..like he know's thats what its for Very Happy He's done 2 successful wee's today and a couple yesterday too.

Right this is my problem - He stands up to wee!! scratch I know he's a boy and thats what fella's do, but he just won't sit and wee he has to stand. I keep encouraging him to sit, but no Rolling Eyes I've just got a feeling this is gunna cause problems when it comes to the poo's.

Anyone else had this experience ?? Do you think I should just go with it and deal with the poo's when it comes to it??

Tbh Zee I haven't got a clue. I have literally, yesterday, just bought Thomas a new potty because he kept falling off his old one. This one is more of a chair type thing. I can't even get him to sit on it for more than a second at the mo so no chance of getting a wee in it.

I have just ordered a little book off Amazon - Potty training boys - because I'm completely clueless about the whole subject Rolling Eyes

One thing I will say though is that I know when Thomas is having a poo in his nappy becuase he goes very quiet and always squats down, even when we have had the odd accident with no nappy on I have just caught him squatting down on the carpet Puke so I'm sure he will still 'squat' when it comes to using the potty scratch Have you noticed what Oliver does when he is filling his nappy? I'm sure it wouldn't be easy to poo standing up scratch

xx

Well you'd think so wouldn't you?? But he does stand to poo as well Shocked scratch He usually goes to the couch or something, grips on and huffs and puffs lol

He has done a poo on the potty, but thats after starting it 1st and me encouraging him to finishing it off on the potty.

I too have got one of the chair type potty's upstairs, which he does wee in (stood up) but he'll only sit in it when he takes the inner/potty out 1st Rolling Eyes

He will sit on his potty (the small one and chair type one) but its never when he needs to wee, he'll only stand to wee Neutral

Think I might have a look on the web or go to the library and have a gander. Thanks anyway Deby Wink

Lisa - Thats what my friends said, but tbh he goes to the loo with me more than his daddy..so you'd think he'd copy me and sit down scratch He's only seen daddy go pee-pee a hand full of times. Do you think I should ask OH to sit down from now on? lol!

Yep that's the one Zee - is reduced to £3.96 on amazon with free delivery for anybody who like me is too lazy to go to the library Razz

It came this morning so I'm gonna have a little read when the kids are in bed tonight. I've read the first page or 2 and it seems easy to read and common sense so it looks good.

Will let you know

He's been doing good this morning done some more pee-pee's on potty and one of his own accord (without being prompted Very Happy ) Am so proud Very Happy Still stood up mind.

Gunna go on the hunt for some training pants now.

I was reading up on the net last night and I do really need to be encouraging to sit down now as it will most probably will become an issue when its poo-poo time Neutral

Well done Oliver!

Jacks not at all interested.

Maybe get him a step for the big toilet and encourage him to wee standing up into it. May be less mess??

Posting to watch this - let us know how the book is debs and how oliver gets on Zee!

We haven't bought a potty yet but intend to - but before bath time we do sit/balance bean on the toilet - he knows that wee-wee makes the 'sssssss' sound (and makes the noise himself) and delightedly points to his willy - and we have had about 4 wees on the grown up toilet Very Happy Very Happy but when we whoop and cheer he stops from fright I think - oops Embarassed

Totally fluke but he knows what it's about and just wanted to introduce the idea to him - plus it makes a welcome change from piddling on the bathroom floor!
Now I just wish he would stop peeing on my knee through the towel when he's being dried scratch xx

Wil has been using the toilet since he was about 5 months (more by chance and quick reactions than anything else, if he pulls poo faces we run). He will sit and do a wee if he is also doing a poo but wants to stand up to wee otherwise and we have had a few accidents where he has stood up and weed on the floor in front of the potty.

My OH's family are strange (in so many ways) and all the males sit down for a wee unless they are using public toilets so Wil hasn't seen standing up for a wee so it must be inbuilt in him.
