Jamie had the same number of creases in his legs at his 6 week check but now only has a crease in one leg. We took him to the dr today and they've referred him for an ultrasound. She said its probably just uneven fat but didn't say what they were looking for and she's quite hard to understand. Does anyone know what it is they're worried about

I really don't know but ellies creases are not the same on each leg. I googled it once and found some forum threads with lots of people saying their babies had odd creaes. I'm not worried as she doesn't have anyproblems. But I'd like to know how your lo gets on xx

Just asked my friend who is training to be a pediatric nurse (if thats what its called) and she said its his displacement they worry about. I would guess he is fine as he can stand and hold his weight supported but suppose its better to get it checked. He does get lots of muscle spasms in that leg. Guess it will be a while until the appointment comes through anyway

Amy, you're right is just the chubbyness but the creases are what experts look at to identify potential problems (I think)!!

When Chloe was born we had to go back to have her hips checked as she was a breech baby and they checked the creases on her legs, so maybe its to do with hips. Chloe's were uneven but there were no problems x

Uneven creases in the legs can indicate a 'clicky' hip, which is a dislocated hip. When Libby was born her left hip was completely dislocated as she didnt have a socket, her leg was visibly longer than her right leg and it had alot more creases - this was because her left leg swept over her right leg. BUT, I have known babies to have uneven creases and there be nothing wrong so try not to worry too much, Libby's problem was picked up the day after she was born. xxx

| Yer, they are usually checking for clicky hips. When they do the 7-12mth check, they usually check the creases then..as they have usually started growing out of their chubbyness (before that age 99.9% of babies have uneven creases cos they are just pure chubbyness lol). They don't tend to do it earlier unless (as the others have said) there was a reason, such as breach etc.
