I'm planning on doing this with Jamie. I have just over a month to go yet but am starting to think about it. Have read some books but wondered if anyone had done it and had any tips. Do I need anything other than a highchair

you need nerves of steel lol well not exactly but when they gag on there food it can be terrifying as you think they are going to choke but as you've probably read it' sjust because there gag reflex is further forward than a grown ups.

ummmm just to get in your head that they dont NEED to eat food and to not worry about the quantity he eats just let him have fun and explore with it.

Smile

Thanks. He gags at the moment sometimes sucking his thumb. Can be scary. His breastfed so do I cut down his milk feeds or just give him more food and let him decide when he wants less?

I would carry on as normal with the feeds as he should drop them by himself when he starts eating more x

I weaned Izzy at 4 months as she needed it but as soon as she was able to hold food I gave her things to eat herself...she hardly ever gagged tbh and never ever enough to make me think she was choking

Izzy now (as any ladies on here will agree) eats soooo well, she eats a good amount but also will try anything! She has a great diversity for food as she has been offered lots of things to try and if she tasted it and didn't like it that was fine, but she would still give it a go next time!

You need to be VERY chilled with BLW, if you get wound up easily and worry too much about the amounts they are eating then you will probably struggle and the baby will feel this and react.

The best piece of advice I can forward to you is - don't sit and watch your baby eating!
Instead the best thing to do is have your lunch too and just chit chat about stuff but don't focus on the food, if you aren't eating yourself I would say tidy the kitchen or whatever becuase the minute you sit down you tend to end up staring at them, analysing how much, how fast etc...not good!
