hmm couple of questions:

a little girl came out in spots last saturday, eli has been in a class with her twice in the past 2 weeks...could he have caught chicken pox???

also, how long is it likely to be until we know if he has it???

aaaaand should we tell the woman he was in a different class with???

aaaaaaaaand can he still go to classes this/next week?

(someone said it can be 3 weeks til the spots come out but i dont really know anything about it)

yeah spots can take up to 3wks to come out, until they do come out unless he has a temp or runny nose or is just generally not himself then u have no reason to believe he has caught them so i would still take him to his classes!! we got a letter 2wks ago from the nursery saying that 2 of the kids had chicken pox but ive still been putting evan into nursery other than a runny nose which he always has ive no reason to believe he has them!! you could tell the woman he was in the other class with that he has been around someone who now has chicken pox but he currently has no symptoms himself?

yeah they take a while, but kids are normally unwell beforehand

i'd still take him till you know, kids are going to get chicken pox, but its how you feel, if you think he is not himelf then dont, but its not fair he misses out on his classes either just in case, up to you hun.

hope hes ok thoughxx

saw your post, before i pressed send.

you will know in 2 weeks if he is going to have chicken pox, because he will be ill, i've always thought they most contagious just before the spots come out, thats why it spreads so quick

and yeah i'd tell sil, not sure what the advice is for pg women and chicken pox, but if i was going to a party i'd rather be told before so can make informed decision

It takes 14 to 21 days from being infected to coming out in spots. Aimee was with a little boy a couple of months ago who had chicken pox and was infectious at the time (we didnt know as his spots hadnt come out). She stole his half eaten biscuit and they sat in a tunnel together - and she still didnt catch it from him scratch. They are normally infections for about 3 days before the spots appear and then a few days after (until they crust over). x

well her spots came out on the sat and they were playing on the friday - im not massively concerned i just dont want to pass it on to people who dont want it Laughing

i think you are right clare i will just let her know - i don't know if she has had it or not so she will need to make that decision herself

Seb wasn't remotely ill before his spots appeared, and they appeared quite slowly, but there had been so many cases at nursery that we were watching for it (so were nursery but they hadn't noticed and were surprised when we phoned in sick!) In fact he wasn't remotely ill with it, just mildly itchy. Anna had a temperature for 24 hrs but not until 3 days after her spots appeared (which was exactly 2 weeks after Seb's appeared).

According to a pregnant friend who is a GP, it is not a problem to be exposed to someone incubating pox if you've had it before, however you should avoid active pox due to risk of shingles. But definitely warn SIL so she can make her own mind up.

Given how many waves of cases there had been at nursery before Seb got it (he goes 3 full days a week), it isn't that easy to get.

Spots cluster in hot spots, particularly under the nappy and on the scalp - Anna only got them there.
