the birth story of Lucas _
PostSubject: the birth story of Lucas   the birth story of Lucas EmptyThu May 26, 2011 2:42 am

thought i'd never get there to write this, but here i am writing it at last, been a crazy few days.

well on friday i woke up with bh every 3mins lasting 3 min, for a couple of hours, rang hosp and told to wait for the pains to become intense as, they were just niggly, this then of course stopped after a warm bath.

then at 7pm i went to the toilet as i was feeling a little damp and thoguht waters had gone, but were leaking, no gush.
rang delivery, told to monitor for an hour and call back, which i did and pad was dry so was told that i just needed to come in if i had pains or bleeding. we took rich to my dads then as i didnt want to be taking him at 3am just in case.

woke in the night with a couple of contractions and bubs (lucas) moving, very painful but not consistent. then i woke at 8am and while lying in bed started to worry i hadnt felt bubs move, call to hosp, they asked me to go in and be monitored as he still had not moved.

we went in at 10am, they monitored both of us, i was having contractions every 10-15 mins and they were becoming painfulish. they did internal and was surprised as i was when i was told i was 7cm dilated and i was off to delivery. 11am

the mw asked about pain control and i said epidural because of my bmi, which i had been advised in case of complications later.
but i wasnt in too much pain and as soon as they said dilated, contractions came every 5-7 mins, each one became more painful, i was being told how calm i was and that they were surprised with me being calm. but i felt in control and was breathing through the pains.

then mw said we will leave epidural for a little while, i went to the loo, and the next couple of contractions were painful, and they arranged for anathestist (sp) to come, by 12.30 i was on gas and air breathing through the pains.

it took him 7 attempts to put epidural in, including using an ultrasound, to make sure right spot, i was a bit out of it at this point and apparently while he was finding the right spot on my back for epi, i told him he gave good back massages... (russ thoguht this was hilarious). my back lloks like a pin cushion and is black with bruising and very painful at moment.

well at 2 epi was in and then it all went wrong, my bp nose dived, 70/30 and lo hb went down to 80's apparently i said i dont feel well, they moved me on side and my bp came back up, they gave me something and it took a little longer for lucas to pick up but he did. because we both had a reaction, my bp was then continually monitored throughout the rest of the labour and i was on continual monitoring for lucas too.
we both didnt like the epi being upped but not as bad as before.

well then mw change of shift at 2 and i had carlos a male mw,

at 330pm he checked me out and i was 9cm dilated and we decided to break my waters,

at 4.30pm, they got me out of bed (thank god a chance to walk around) wrong mistake in one part but a good thing in another, this caused baby to move down to birth canal, but i was violently sick, i hate being sick, so back in to bed.

then at6pm was checked again 10cm and urge to push,

started to push but i was lying down and didnt have the energy for it.
we changed the bed to a chair shape and hey presto 6.25pm lucas arrived.

he landed on my chest and scared me to death as i had eyes closed pushing lol, but wow what a moment, one that will remain a very long time,
the baby we had been wanting for so long on my chest, they cut cord, checked him out and wrapped him up for me to hold,

russ held him while i was stitched, 2nd degree tear, but i didnt mind at that point.

lucas is perfect, hes gorgeous, a very emotional moment for both me and russ, i didnt know he was a boy till a couple of minutes after he was born, i was so surprised i was so expecting a girl. but a boy seems more natural somehow.

we stayed on delivery till 9 then went down to the ward, russ came with us but was told to leave soon after.

i was bf at this point but it was very painful, lucas slept from 11pm to 8am, i slept 4-6am lol, i did get him to attach but it was very painful.
we got home at 1pm, via kfc as i had nothing to eat in over 24 hours apart from rice krispies.

that night i tried to bf again but at this point was bleeding and was not happy, lucas is now on the bottle and most feeds he sucks the life out the teat, my poor nipples are cracked. i tried but i'm enjoying bottlefeeding have to say, so is daddy.

well thats the story of lucas entering the world, we are both over the moon and totatlly exhausted too,

just wanted again to say thank you for all the good luck and congratulation messages and the support the past few months, especially past few weeks xxx

Aww congrats to you, Russ and Rich! Not quite as simple as it could have been but at least not completely awful.
Can't believe he slept 11-8!
