Potty paranoia _
PostSubject: Potty paranoia   Potty paranoia EmptySat May 28, 2011 8:35 am

Was in the bathroom with C today and she was nakey when she started to wee. Shes not quite getting pre warning yet more at the stage of knowing AS shes going. So i took her and sat her on potty and she weed in it so we both made a big fuss of her and told her she was a big clever girl but she actually got wuite upset about it. Lastcouple of times we have had an impromptu wee or poo (usually same circumstances-nakey for bath and started going) shes gotten upset in the same way

All we can think is she doesnt grasp the idea of a potty and seems to think she should either go in her nappy or on the toilet like mummy and daddy. We have a toilet seat with a ladder for her and she will happily sit on that and try and go when shes asked a couple of times. Anyway ive told her if she doesnt wanna go potty she doesnt have to and she can use the toilet like a big girl when shes ready and her nappy til then. I said if she wanted we could move her potty and she suggested we piut it in the back garden Laughing so with great ceremoney we did so.

Anyway we currently have the one with a ladder and im looking for a little padded one for when the time comes we can take out and about to put on big toilets-ive seen a folding one anfd a buzz lightyear one so im torn lol.

Basically im wondering if anyone else has come across this at all?

Is she scared of the potty?

I havent tried Caitlin on the toilet but you have given me the idea to try. Caitlin will only sit on potty clothed - bare bummed and she screams and freaks out to get off. She is very interested in the toilet, loves watching me pee, hands me toilet roll and when I flush delightfully squeals bye bye pee's and peers in!

Sorry not much advice. Just you have given me a little idea so thank you!

PS I think Caitlin would agree with Caelyn that pottys belong in the garden

Imogen is similar. Gets very upset when she wees on the floor, she'll actually run to get tissue to clean it up and she's freaks at the potty and won't sit on it but thinks the toilet is wonderful. Sounds like C wants to be a big girl and go on the toilet like Mum &Dad. My Mum said i flat out refused to go on a potty, and i know my neice didn't like the potty and prefered toilet so I think it's quite common

Thomas went through this hun. He prefered to sit on the big toilet at first, I'm not sure why but I don't think he actually liked to see what he had done iykwim scratch he also used to go mad if we cheered and clapped him.

I basically just went with what he wanted because I felt he wasn't quite ready yet anyway so we just made it fun when he wanted it and ignored it when he didn't. It's weird because at one point he refused to use the potty and would only use the toilet but now that he is actually ready he is the opposite and isnt at all keen on the toilet scratch strange little creatures.

I don't have much advice hun other than let her guide you, if she isnt keen on the potty then let her use the loo etc but sounds like you're doing this anyway. Just go with her and see what happens. She will just suprise you one day by having a completely different reaction and then grab the opportunity and run with it from there.

Good luck

xx

Thanks guys. I did suppose it was probaby fairly common. Well shes been back to normal going in her nappy today but she did say to her dad earlier 'want poo, go toilet like big girl' so i guess shes made her mind up (and didnt manage to go in the end). I will just roll with it i guess for when the time comes
