| Honestly, how stupid can some people be? My midwife wanted me to have my 12 week scan on the 5th July - I got a letter today from the hosptial for 25th July! I will be nearly 15 weeks pregnant then so way too late for the nuchal scan. So, I rang them, and the woman just argued with me! She refused to believe my dates and wouldnt move the scan date. I decided to call back and challenge them again and make sure that they accepted full responsibility for me not having the nuchal scan, and spoke to a lovely lady who was like, 'wtf, why are you coming so late?' so she rearranged the appointment for 6th July and breathe.......... |

| Do you all get nuchal scan in England? That tests for downs doesnt it?
We get a scan at 11/12wks but they only check for heart beat and measure the crown-rump length to check your dates. It lasts 5 mins and you get to see baby having a wiggle but its def not a screening type scan. We wouldnt be aware anything was wrong until 20 wks scan.
Wonder why the woman was being such a control freak - hardly affects her life what date you come for your scan!!! x |

| Yeah Snoopy, im not sure if its the whole of England, or just certain PCT's, but they have done the Nuchal scan as standard at 12 weeks for all of my pregnancies so far. You have to allow an hour, and they measure the thickness of the babys neck (or something like that) and do other little checks, and then they take blood too. They then do the detailed scan at 20 weeks where they check the organs, etc. x |

| Strange we dont get it done... in saying that abortions arent legal here so maybe they dont see the point in finding things like downs syndrome out early. Maybe it would show at 20 week scan anyway. We get booking in app done at same time as scan (so it is an hr long) and bloods taken but that's only to check Iron levels, Aids, for infection, blood group etc.
Funny how everywhere dif. Steph was saying before that her hospital in Scotland have scraped the 20 week scan! That shocked me!
Hope yours goes well! x |

| I think some receptionists are just control freaks. I had this a few times as they kept booking me in for a scan after I'd seen the consultant and I kept having to change it to before. Why would you make up your dates anyway? Glad you got it sorted |

Are abortions illegal even if for medical reasons? they are illegal here too (or so they say) but not if its on medical grounds... You can get abortions on medical grounds but its really strict eg the mothers life has to be at risk or the baby severely disabled or have little chance of life at birth. You wouldnt necessarily get one just because the baby had a disability, it depends to what extent and im 99% sure downs wouldnt qualify. People do go to Liverpool from here to get them done for social reasons, they organise it all themselves but. Id never really heard of nuchal scans until I started using baby sites/reading books. I thought they were maybe only offered to women over 35 but obviously they are routine in lots of places. |

| i think you get nuchal fold tests here.....you do get blood tests for umm abnormalities and things, as my 12 week scan was normal and i was low risk we decided not to have them though |

| what a crabbit bint ,,, glad you got appointment earlier though ! i had never heard of the nuchiethingymabob scan until i was pregnant with my youngest and have never been offered it up here we get an early scan if there is valid reason then a scan around 12 weeks , a 20 week scan and when we go back to see consultant at 36 weeks he sometimes scans you in his office and if you ask nicely he will tell sex , they will not tell sex at 20 weeks |
