| Ooooo I loves the cake!
I thought as a few of us ladies love to make cakes, and even more of us like to eat them then maybe we ought to start a little group. You can use this group to ask advice about all aspects of cake and cupcake making, and also to share your own experiences.
So whether your planning to make your 1st ever cake or you have professional qualifications, please come and talk about the delicious yummy scrumminess that is CAKE! |

| OMFG since I last posted I have just booked my 1st ever wedding cake!!!!!! I am completely bricking it. Luckily they don't want a tiered cake, they only want 2 real cakes and a larger dummy cake that they can display on a stand. So next 6 weeks is going to be filled with me making blossoms for 3 cakes, they practically cover the whole thing! EEEKKKK!!! |

| This is a recipe I use for my chocolate cake if I'm going to cover it with fondant icing. It's quite dense but is nice and moist.
This recipe is for 2, 8" sandwich tins;
6 eggs, weigh them in thier shells then weigh out the same measures of;
S/R flour (sieved 3 times) For chocolate cake I take out 3 heaped dessertspoons of flour and replace them with Cocoa Powder). Stork Caster Sugar
Whisk together the Stork and sugar til the mixture has increased in quantity and is pale and fluffy, then add an egg at a time continuously whisking, add a little flour with each egg, once all the eggs have been added add the rest of the flour and whisk till the mixture is smooth and creamy looking. Add, 1 or 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and whisk in.
I bake at 170 degrees for about 40 mins, but I have a fan assisted oven so you might need to adjust it.
Once cool I sandwich them together with a layer of chocolate fudge icing (i buy this one ready made!)
Thanks for the luck Lisa, I'm going to need it!!!

| Honestly Vicki, it's so easy. The only way it can go wrong is if you burn it!
Oh I forgot to say, make sure you grease your tins REALLY REALLY well so that it doesn't stick. You can also cut a circle of greasproof paper and grease both sides and line the bottom of the tin with it x |

| Lisa - you should post pics of the cakes you've done! I'd love to do icing work but am too stingy to buy all the different coloured icing - but things like figurines etc. I'd be a dab hand at - it's the cake bit and rolled icing I'm a novice at Now EATING cake - that I can do, easy peasy - if you need a taste tester you know where I am |

| Dawn aka Donc is the cookie lady, give her a PM Terri I'm sure she'll have a good recipe for you. I know jack about cookies (wish I did though, yummy!)
Mandy I haven't made a fruit cake since I was a child. I would imagine a Delia recipe would be good. I'll ask my SMIL when I next see her, bet she had a good one x |

| I have a recipe for cookies, works with either milk chocolate or white chocolate chips
25g butter, softened 100g light brown soft sugar 125g caster sugar 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 tsp vanilla extract 225g self-raising flour ½ tsp salt 200g chocolate chips
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4.
2. Cream butter and suga well, then combine in the egg and vanilla.
3. Sift in the flour and salt, then the chocolate chips.
4. Roll into walnut size balls, for a more homemade look, or roll into a long, thick sausage shape and slice to make neater looking cookies.
5. Place on ungreased baking paper. Bake for just 7 minutes, till the cookies are just setting - the cookies will be really doughy and delicious. Otherwise if you prefer firmer cookies, cook for 10 minutes until just golden round the edges.
6. Take out of the oven and leave to harden for a minute before transferring to a wire cooling rack. These are yummiest when warm, but can be stored also.
Thanks Lisa, I can make fruit cakes, but I want a really yummy one as the one I use is just ok

| Here's a wedding cake I finished this morning, not my cup of tea, personally I wouldn't have black for a wedding but it's not my day! The bottom tier is fruit, middle tier vanilla sponge and top tier is lemon sponge |

| Pretty pretty Mandy! Agree with the black but looks smart. Was it tricky using the dark icing - to get it black, black without icing sugar etc. on? Well done though - and I need to eat cake now. P.S. Lisa G everytime I read "ooooo I loves the cake" I have a laugh to myself. You'd think it would wear off - but nope --> |

| I've really got the baking bug this week, I'm fairly quiet on the cake front this month as I'm doing mainly wedding cakes so I take on less orders so I've been making a lot of stuff just for fun, and it's amazing how much more I enjoy it when it's just for me to eat rather than a customer I made scones last night, fruit ones, plain and some cheese ones which were yummy. Today I made biscuits with my nephew and I'm going to make some macaroons tomorrow. I love working with pastry too and making bread, ooo I might make some bread tomorrow too. What are your favourite things to make? |

| I used to love making bread rolls, I used to like making them all round and perfect. Haven't made them for many many years though.
At the moment I just really enjoy piping swirls on cupcakes, they're my fave at the moment |

| See I hate doing that, I have mild arthiritis in my fingers and hands asn find after a few it gets quite painful so I have to do a bit then stop and go back to it. I've got a wedding order next weekend for 150 cupcakes and a top cake, I'm dreading it |

| cup cakes are exactly the same as fairy cakes, usually a little bit bigger Em, that would be great if you would ask your mum. I'd much rather use a recipe that is well practised and works well rather than one out of a book. Nice to see you here btw Em |
